Das Team De Rooy macht einige drastische Veränderungen durch. Gerard de Rooy wird vorerst nicht mehr an Rallyes teilnehmen und die De Rooy Holding reduziert das Sponsoring. Das Team wird weiterhin in abgespeckter Form mit zwei Iveco Powerstars bestehen. Drei Rallye-Trucks stehen aber ab sofort zum Verkauf.
Die unmittelbare Ursache für die Veränderungen ist die Koronakrise. „Es hat sowohl unser Unternehmen als auch unsere Partner ziemlich hart getroffen“, sagt Gerard de Rooy. „Und es zwingt uns die Pläne für die nahe Zukunft drastisch anzupassen. Unter normalen Umständen hätten wir in der Dakar 2021 mit fünf Lastwagen gestartet. Die Koronakrise schafft jedoch so viel Unsicherheit – nicht nur in Bezug auf die Ereignisse, sondern auch in geschäftlicher und finanzieller Hinsicht, dass wir Prioritäten setzen und Entscheidungen treffen müssen.“
Eine dieser Entscheidungen ist, dass Gerard de Rooy selbst in naher Zukunft keine Rallyes mehr fahren wird und das die De Rooy Holding das Sponsoring reduzieren wird. „Ich möchte in der Organisation und Unterstützung aktiv bleiben. Ich selbst und das Team haben viel Wissen und Erfahrung und das wollen wir nicht verlieren.“
Ein Teil des aktiven Rallye-Teams – zwei Powerstars und ein Trakker – wird verkauft, vorzugsweise an eine Team. De Rooy kann weiterhin Service und Wartung sowie Unterstützung in der Organisation für die Teilnahme an Rallyes wie der Morocco Desert Challenge und der Rallye Dakar bereitstellen. Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, dass ein Teil des Dienstes von der dem neuen Team übernommen wird. „Verschiedene Konstruktionen sind möglich. Alles ist verhandelbar. “
Motoren bleiben jederzeit Eigentum von Team De Rooy und werden an die neuen Besitzer ausschließlich vermietet. Kürzlich wurde ein Powerstar in einer solchen Konstruktion an das Firemen Team verkauft – wir berichteten: LINK.
„Wir behalten selbst zwei neue Powerstars„, sagt De Rooy. „Sie werden wie in den letzten Jahren zur Miete oder zum Leasing verfügbar sein. Auf diese Weise kann das Team De Rooy in abgespeckter Form an Rallyes teilnehmen. Wir diskutieren dies mit einer Reihe von Fahrern. Wenn wir diese LKWs selbst behalten bleiben die Möglichkeiten auch längerfristig offen. Das Team De Rooy wird nicht aufhören zu existieren.“
Team De Rooy slimmed-down
Team De Rooy is undergoing some drastic changes. Gerard de Rooy will no longer participate in rallies for the time being and De Rooy Holding cuts down sponsoring. The team will continue to exist in a slimmed-down form, with two Iveco Powerstars. Three rally trucks are for sale.
The immediate cause for the changes is the corona crisis. “It has hit both our company and our partners pretty hard,” says Gerard de Rooy. “And it forces us to drastically adjust the plans for the near future. Under normal circumstances, we would have started in the Dakar 2021 with five trucks. But the corona crisis is creating so much uncertainty – not just in terms of the events, but also business and financial – that we have to set priorities and make decisions.”
One of those decisions is that Gerard de Rooy himself will no longer drive any rallies in the near future and that De Rooy Holding will cut down sponsoring. “I would like to remain active in the organization and support. Myself and the team have a lot of knowledge and experience and we don’t want to lose that.”
Part of the active rally team – two Powerstars and a Trakker – will be sold, preferably to one party or group. De Rooy can continue to provide service and maintenance, as well as support in the organization for participating in rallies, such as the Morocco Desert Challenge and the Dakar Rally. There is also a possibility that part of the service will be taken over by the new party. “Various constructions are possible. Everything is negotiable.”
Engines remain the property of Team De Rooy at all times and are leased to the new party. Recently, a Powerstar was sold to the Firemen Team in such a construction – we reported: LINK.
“We keep two new Powerstars ourselves,” says De Rooy. “They will become available for rent or lease, as has been the case in recent years. This allows Team De Rooy to participate in rallies in a slimmed-down form. We are discussing this with a number of drivers. Keeping these trucks ourselves also keeps the possibilities open for the longer term. Team De Rooy will not cease to exist.”
