The final crossing of the Old Telegraph Track was Nolan’s Brook, and it turned into one of the sketchiest moments of the whole Cape York trip. The water was up around windscreen height on the Grenadier, so we spent plenty of time checking different lines and setting up a recovery plan before sending it. Then halfway through the crossing the winch line went slack, the plan fell apart and the Grenadier started taking on water.
