Ken Roczen legt scheinbar alles ab: Druck um die Meisterschaft und ein schwere Gürtelrose um dann einfach mal so auf Platz 1 zu fahren – was für eine Leistung nachdem man schon nicht mehr daran geglaubt hatte, das der Deutsche überhaupt noch eine Chance auf das Treppchen haben würde, nachdem ihn Cooper Webb in SLC 4 so abgeledert hatte und er mit seiner Nervenerkrankung zu kämpfen hat. Immerhin verhalf dieser fulminante Laufsieg Ken zurück auf Platz zwei in der Gesamtwertung. Für den Titel wird es vermutlich nur noch reichen, wenn Eli Tomac massive Probleme bekommen würde und Cooper Webb mit Ausfällen hantieren müsste, so dass Ken sich Punkt für Punkt an den Meisterschaftsführenden Eli Tomac heranarbeiten könnte. Was die Zukunft bringt, weiß niemand und somit beenden wir hier die Spekulationen und hoffen auf das Beste für Ken. Hier ein persönliches Statement des Team Managers, Ken’s Mechaniker und von Ken selbst!
Erik Kehoe – Team Manager
„Was für ein Tag. Beide Jungs zeigten den ganzen Tag ihre Stärken und den notwendigen Speed. Kenny fuhr in seinem Rennen sehr gut. Der Start im Finale war nicht allzu spektakulär, aber er traf einige gute Entscheidungen in der ersten und zweiten Kurve und kam als erster heraus. Er fuhr sehr stark und das war ein großartiges Finish. Justin hatte auch eine bessere Fahrt. Ich denke, seine Starts haben ihn heute geschmerzt, aber es gibt dadurch eine gute Adrenalin-Injektion für’s Team, was wir mit in die nächste Runde nehmen wollen.“
KEN ROCZEN’s KOMMENTAR
„Heute Abend haben wir wirklich sehr, sehr gut gearbeitet. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass ich die gesamte Strecke im Finale zurücklegen konnte, was großartig war. Ich wusste, dass es nur ein paar zusätzliche Tage dauern würde, bis alles mit meinem Körper wieder okay war. Wir haben unser Heat Race gewonnen, das wirklich gepusht hat – ich habe einen Holeshot geholt und es war großartig. Ich habe mich wirklich gut mit dem Bike gefühlt. Wir haben es hier und da ein wenig optimiert und ich bin im Finale damit wirklich sehr gut zurecht gekommen. Ich mochte die Strecke irgendwie. Die Whoops waren wieder richtig ausgefahren und ich denke, dass war heute Abend eine meiner Stärken. Am Ende haben wir gewonnen, was großartig war, weil die letzten drei Runden für mich und das Team sehr hart waren. Es war gut, zurück zu kommen und all diese Negativität in etwas Positives umzuwandeln. Jedes Mal, wenn ich für mich und mein Team gewinne, fühlt es sich wie mein erster Sieg überhaupt an. Wir waren heute Abend die Besten, was großartig ist. Das Team ist glücklich und ich bin glücklich und ich freue mich auf das Rennen am Mittwoch.“

„Was für eine Wende für Ken hier in Salt Lake City! Die letzten Rennen waren – gelinde gesagt – hart, aber ich bin wirklich glücklich und stolz auf ihn. Er war in der Lage wieder mächtig anzugasen, dabei einige Änderungen am Bike vorzunehmen und den Hahhn einfach umzulegen und seinen Job zuerledigen. Zu sehen, dass Cooper [Webb] genau dort war und einfach nicht dagegen halten konnte – macht mich einfach wirklich stolz auf Ken. Wir haben noch ein paar Rennen und werden versuchen, es zu wiederholen, bevor es vorbei ist.“

Ken Roczen apparently takes everything off: pressure for the championship and a heavy zoster to then simply go to 1st place – what an achievement after everybody hadn’t believed that the German still had a chance to win the podium Ausafter Cooper Webb cuffed him this way in SLC 4 and struggled with his nerve disease. After all, this brilliant race win brought Ken back to second place in the overall standings. It will probably only be enough for the title if Eli Tomac gets massive problems and Cooper Webb has to deal with failures, so that Ken could work on the championship leader Eli Tomac point by point. Nobody knows what the future will bring, so we end speculation here and hope for the best for Ken. Here is a personal statement from the team manager, Ken’s mechanic and Ken himself!
Erik Kehoe – Team Manager
“Great day. Both guys showed a lot of strength and a lot of speed all day long. Kenny rode really well in his heat race. The start in the main wasn’t all that spectacular, but he just made some good decisions in the first and second turns and came out right up front. He rode really strong and that was a great finish. Justin had a better ride also; I think his starts were hurting him today, but there’s a good adrenaline injection into the team, so we’ll carry that into the next round.”
KEN ROCZEN’s statement
“Tonight we did really, really good. I felt like I was able to go the full distance in the main, which was great. I knew it was just going to take a few extra days to get everything back lined up after the last couple of rounds and everything that’s been going on with my body. We won our heat race, which was really stacked–I got a holeshot there and it was great. I really felt good with the bike; we’ve been tweaking it a little bit here and there, and I was really gelling with it nicely tonight. I kind of liked the track; the whoops got really chewed up again and I think that was one of my strong points tonight. We ended up getting the win, which was great because the last three rounds have been really tough on me and the team. It was good to come back and turn all that negativity around into something positive. Every time I go out and win for myself and my team, it feels like my first win back. We were the best tonight, which is awesome. The team is happy and I’m happy and looking forward to the race on Wednesday.”
Jordan Troxell – Ken’s mechanic
“What a turnaround for Ken here in Salt Lake City! The last couple were rough to say the least, but I’m really happy and proud of him. He was able to dig deep and make some changes and just tough it out tonight and get it done. To see that Cooper [Webb] was right there and just didn’t have anything for him–I’m just really proud of Ken. We have a couple more and we’ll try to repeat before it’s over.”
