🇧🇬 Teo Kabakchiev won a breathtaking Day 2 battle at the Roof of Africa, clocking 5:48:58 across the ~110km Big Loop into the Maloti Mountains. 🇿🇦 Wade Young finished 32 seconds back, 🇩🇪 Manuel Lettenbichler a further 48 seconds behind. The three fought together all day — and when the cumulative times were added, they sat at the top of the overall classification within 1 minute 21 seconds of each other. Everything is still to play for on Saturday’s Final Ascent.
The Fight at the Front
Four riders broke from the field early and spent the day in a war of attrition across the Maloti Mountains — Kabakchiev, Lettenbichler, Young and Matthew Green pushing each other for more than 100 kilometres. Kabakchiev ultimately edged it by 32 seconds over Young, with Lettenbichler a further 1:42 back. Green held on to an impressive fourth.
The biggest news came further down the field. 🇿🇦 James Moore — yesterday’s TT winner and the crowd’s favourite — suffered a mechanical early in Stage 1 that cost him over an hour. He recovered to finish the day but the damage to his cumulative time was too severe. The race for the overall win has moved on without him.
Junior World Championship
Luke Walker claimed his first FIM Hard Enduro World Junior Championship podium at the Roof of Africa, winning the JWC stage classification on Day 2. Thomas Scales continued his impressive run of form, showing the consistency that has marked his 2026 campaign. The Brightmore brothers — who between them hold the top two spots in the Junior Championship — had mechanical issues that disrupted their day and will make Saturday’s Final Ascent a critical session for the Junior title race.
