We drove our Jeeps into a flooded and partially collapsed abandoned railroad tunnel deep in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia… and that wasn’t even the craziest part of this adventure. Welcome back to Hell & Back Adventure: West Virginia! 5 days, 400 miles and four of West Virginia’s wildest off-road destinations – with no trailers and no outside support. Episode 2 picks up exactly where we left off: with a Jeep in the middle of a rollover. After getting it back on its wheels, we continue deeper into the West Virginia mountains through huge rock ledges, waterfalls, mud and some seriously sketchy trails – all while the rain just keeps coming. The next day, the adventure takes a completely unexpected turn. A set of random coordinates leads us to a hidden waterfall and eventually to a series of abandoned railroad tunnels in West Virginia’s historic coal country. The first tunnel is heavily flooded, but the second gets even crazier. Deep inside, we discover that part of the tunnel has collapsed – and by the time we realize exactly what we’re driving over, we’re already committed. This is what Hell & Back is all about: taking our Jeeps somewhere we’ve never been, tackling the hardest trails we can find, living out of the rigs and figuring things out along the way. If you’re into Jeep off-roading, rock crawling, overlanding, 4×4 adventures, trail riding and exploring places most people never get to see, you’re in the right place.

5 days. 400 miles. Four Jeeps. And the wildest off-road trails West Virginia has to offer. This is our idea of “overlanding.” For this Hell & Back Adventure, we left our trailers at the finish line, drove 200 miles away from them and started making our way back through the Appalachian Mountains. No trailers. No outside support. Just open Jeeps loaded with basic camping gear, hammocks and everything we needed to survive five days on the road and trail. And then it started raining… and pretty much never stopped. What followed were flooded trails, waterfalls, abandoned coal mine tunnels, trail repairs, incredible places hidden deep in the West Virginia mountains and THREE rollovers in the first two days alone. Starting off with Bearwallow off road park – the first destination of 4, which is part of the Hatfield & McCoy Trail system. What was supposed to be an easy / scenic start into this wild adventure turned into 2 Jeeps flopping on their side, a broken shock mount and a broken alternator. We didn’t make it out of this place until very very late and then still had to find a place to camp. On day 2 we finally got to check out an off road park called Ivy Branch ATV Resort! I’ve always wanted to come here and it sure didn’t disappoint! Just like on the first day – it started raining like crazy as soon as we hit dirt which turned trails into waterfalls and made everything 2x as hard. Oh, and of course the Pink Helmet is back. This time with a new punishment waiting for whoever earns it the most. 😂 This is Hell & Back Adventures: West Virginia
