And he did so with a lot of steam in the hut and almost eight minutes ahead of his strongest pursuer, as expected: Teodor Kabakchiev on the Factory Sherco. But both also had their moments. Especially in CP18 they had lost an unusually large amount of time and produced times around P9 and P14. The strongest third force was the Austrian Michael Walkner on his GasGas, who finished almost 16 minutes behind Manuel.

Manuel Lettenbichler – 1st place: ‚It was a very fast route and a really long day with a total distance of 180 km. Actually, I had expected a shorter distance, to be honest. As I said, a high pace was possible because the ground was very grippy and I am of course super happy to have taken first place. In the Livemaniacs octopus section I was able to find a very good line and also had a good rhythm. Teodor couldn’t catch up in this section, so I was able to do my three laps undisturbed, which was very pleasant. I’m expecting another long day tomorrow.‘

In the steam hammer class, Mario Roman secured the first victory of the day after the prologue victory, followed by his good friend Pol Tarrés with only 45 seconds behind. The performance of Austrian Dieter Rudolf on his KTM 890 Adventure R is surprising, pushing it to third place, only 47 seconds behind the top. Then follows Kevin Gallas, who had to struggle with some teething problems, but slowly worked his way forward over the almost four hours of riding time and came in his desired flow – 6m11s behind. Right behind him comes the island power with Jonny Walker on his 900 Triumph Monster 10m14s behind Mario Roman. The Australian Adam Riemann is visibly struggling with his 900cc BMW and only makes it to P15, more than an hour behind.

On Race Day 2 the Gold class will not start racing until shortly before eight o’clock. So enough time for relaxation and bike check. Unfortunately, more detailed information about the route is not yet available. So, let’s be surprised. It will definitely be exciting again, because the sections Rock Field, Dragon Spikes or Straja Rock Garden up to the Golden Quarry promise a lot.
