15 years ago this Cape York beach run started it all. Now we’re back for 60km of 4×4 beach driving, tidal crossings, quicksand and crocodiles, with just four days before the tide shuts the beach.

Shaun Whale and Graham Cahill take on the remote east coast of Cape York, where huge tides, deep river mouths and salt flats make every kilometre a gamble.

When the tide floods camp on night one, it’s a sleepless night on the roof, then a drive 1km out to sea to get clear of it. Get it wrong out here and you could lose the vehicle for good.
