Man erinnere sich an die legendären Dakar Zeiten vom BMW-Werksteam mit Gaston Rahier als Sieger bei der Dakar 1984 bis hin zu dem Einsatz der neuen Vierventiler Generation BMW R 900 R mit Jimmy Lewis auf dem dritten Platz bei der 2000er Dakar-Ausgabe. Geht man noch einen Schritt weiter auf nationaler Ebene, so dürfte der legendäre Einsatz des flinken Finnen Simo Kirssi bei der German Cross Country auf seiner Spezial BWM HP2 mit der er eine unglaubliche Dominanz gegen die Einzylinderfraktion zeigte nicht unerwähnt bleiben.
Heute ist man von 1000 über 1050, 1100, 1150, 1200 und 1250 Kubikzentimetern Hubraum bereits bei satten 1300 angelangt. Und in diesem Fall besitzt die neue GS auch tatsächlich exakt 1300 Kubikzentimeter an Hubraum. Daraus schöpft der Boxermotor 145 PS bei 7750/min und ein beeindruckendes Drehmoment von 149 Newtonmeter bei 6500/min – was für Werte. Ein Plus von 11 PS und 6 Newtonmeter zum Vorgängermodell. Dabei sollte noch erwähnt werden das zwischen 3600 und 7800/min mehr als 130 Newtonmeter dauerhaft anstehen. Natürlich musste man dafür motorisch schon etwas Hand anlegen, so dass die Verdichtung von 12,5 auf 13,3 in den Zylindern angehoben wurde.
Das ist noch nicht alles, denn der Hersteller spricht von einer vollständigen Neukonstruktion, die gegenüber dem Vorgängermodell 12 Kilogramm weniger auf die Waage zaubert. Folglich sind laut Datenblatt fahrfertig und aufgetankt 237 Kilogramm Programm.

Natürlich hat das Ganze auch seinen Preis, der mit entsprechender Ausstattung logischerweise nach oben kaum Grenze hat. Ab 19.100 Euro geht die 1300er GS in der Basisausstattung über die Ladentheke, wobei es dabei sicherlich nicht bleibt, möchte man die adaptive Fahrzeughöhenregelung samt Sportfederung an Board haben.
