Die Deutsche Cross Country Meisterschaft wird 20 Jahre jung. Im Mai 2002 fiel der Startschuss zu einem der erfolgreichsten Motorrad-Offroadprojekte im deutschsprachigen Raum. Seitdem ist die Sportart Cross-Country hierzulande ein fester Begriff und wird im Tourkalender vieler Moto-Cross- und Enduropiloten als „Must“ geführt.
Die Idee von „Closed Area Enduro“ Events wurde bereits 1984 im Rahmen der nordamerikanischen Grand National Cross Country Serie umgesetzt. In Deutschland adaptierte Sportpromoter BABOONS das Konzept auf die doch deutlich eingeschränkteren Platzverhältnisse hierzulande und fand mit einer Laufzeit von 2 Stunden pro Klasse die optimale Distanz für die heimische Offroad-Elite. Auch das GCC-Reglement hat sich mit ein paar Anpassungen über all die Jahre als belastbar gezeigt und bewährt. Mit konstant großen Teilnehmerzahlen von bis zu 900 Fahrern pro Event hat die Deutsche Cross Country Meisterschaft über zwei Jahrzehnte hinweg die Entwicklung des Motorrad-Offroadsports entscheidend mitgeprägt.
Nach einer Corona Zwangspause startet die Serie am 23. April 2022 in die Jubiläumsaison. Die Einschreibung für alle Teilnehmer beginnt pünktlich am 1. Januar.

Ulrich Hanus Geschäftsführer von GCC Promoter BABOONS: „Wir wollen uns von der derzeitigen Coronalage nicht kleinkriegen lassen. Irgendwann geht auch das wieder vorbei. Spätestens im Frühjahr werden Outdoor-Veranstaltungen wieder ihren gewohnten Lauf nehmen. Davon sind wir überzeugt und müssen daher jetzt mit der Planung starten.“
20 Jahre GCC sind 20 Jahre Geschichten und Stories über Rennsport-Triumphe und Niederlagen, einmalige Momente aber auch Dramen, extremste Wetterbedingungen und endlose Afterrace-Parties, getragen und zelebriert von einer großartigen Community, die nun seit einer ganzen Generation diese Idee gemeinsam lebt.
In den nächsten Monaten bis zum Startschuss der Jubiläumssaison 2022 wird GCC-Promoter BABOONS Highlights aus der Geschichte der GCC präsentieren und dabei auch viele Bilder und Backstage-Stories ausgraben.
The German Cross Country Championship is 20 years old now. In May 2002 the starting shot was given for one of the most successful motorcycle off-road projects in German-speaking countries. Since then, the sport of cross-country has been a household name in this country and is listed as a “must” in the tour calendar of many motocross and enduro irders.
The idea of ’Closed Area Enduro‘ events was implemented back in 1984 as part of the North American Grand National Cross Country Series. In Germany, sports promoter BABOONS adapted the concept to the much more limited space available in this country and found the ideal distance for the local off-road elite with a running time of 2 hours per class. With a few adjustments over the years, the GCC regulations have also proven to be resilient. With a consistently large number of participants of up to 900 riders per event, the German Cross Country Championship has had a decisive influence on the development of motorcycle off-road racing for two decades.
After a forced Corona break, the series will start the anniversary season on April 23, 2022. Registration for all participants begins punctually on January 1st.

20 years of GCC are 20 years of stories and stories about racing triumphs and defeats, unique moments but also dramas, extreme weather conditions and endless after-race parties, carried and celebrated by a great community that has been living this idea together for a whole generation.
In the next few months until the start of the 2022 anniversary season, GCC promoter BABOONS will present highlights from the history of GCC and dig up many pictures and backstage stories in the process.
