KTM presents its new 20207 sports enduro models and even we, as a self-confessed two-stroke fans, are shocked at first. Both in the press release and on the website, there are no three or even two two-stroke models listed for the model year, but only the KTM 300 EXC. In the four-stroke segment, the 250 apparently disappears and only the displacement sizes 350-450-500 are offered as MY27. Although it was mentioned in the press release, it is not listed as a 2027 model on the official website.

Innovations, on the other hand, are only listed in the form of a new décor kit. But an important step in the industry is certainly the 1-year premium manufacturer’s warranty now also for sports enduro models, which is available in selected countries and requires maintenance at the KTM dealer.

Back to the two-stroke: 2025 and 2026 models will still be offered, including a 250cc in special editions such as Sixdays or Champions Edition. But only the blockbuster KTM 300 EXC is offered as a 2027 model with a 1-year warranty. The same applies to the four-stroke engines in the form of 2025 and 2026 models offered, also partly as a special edition.

The KTM sports enduro model range has never shrunk so small in the last 20 years. Reduced from eight models to now only four is actually a bitter and presumably realistic pill that you have to swallow first. The reasons for this should be obvious. However, everyone can make up their own minds about it.

There are also currently no binding information regarding availability. Is this still the tough red pen to get KTM back on track or a necessary cut in KTM’s future enduro commitment? In the end, only the numbers count in every business. If these do not fit, action must be taken, even if this is at the expense of emotions and traditions.

Surprisingly, however, a KTM 250 XC-W 2T will be offered for cross-country use under the 2027 model year, but not in the necessary homologated variant for enduro sport in Europe. Unfortunately, a red guide is not yet recognizable here, or only with difficulty. However, let’s hope that KTM will turn the corner and not have to scrap the entire sports enduro program at some point. Because then a global player and a great supporter and promoter of enduro sport in recent decades would be missing.
