JHL recently made its MXGP debut at the Oriental Beauty Valley MXGP of China on September 12–13, fielding riders in both classes. Germany’s Brian Hsu and China’s Yuzhang Li raced the JHL MX350R in the premier MXGP class, while Ecuadorian rider Italo Medina competed in MX2. JHL finished 12th and 13th in MXGP and 16th in MX2, making it the first Chinese manufacturer to score points in a World Championship motocross event. JHL is being imported into the U.S. by USA Motortoys, the same company responsible for bringing Kove motorcycles stateside. Joe Henner recently brought down his personal JHL 250 for us to ride, giving us our first real-world experience with the bike. While the JHL name is new to us, some of the technology isn’t entirely unfamiliar. The MX250 uses essentially the same engine found in the Kove MX250, which appears to be heavily based on the architecture of the current Honda CRF250R. The JHL uses its own steel frame, however, which is completely different from the Kove and has some similarities to an earlier KTM design. The JHL also comes equipped with several components from established motorcycle suppliers, including KYB suspension, Nissin brakes, Bosch EFI and D.I.D Dirt Star rims. Another interesting feature is the stock radiator fan, something you don’t commonly see on a motocross bike.
