Unfortunately, the Extreme XL Lagares suffered a serious crash on the first day of riding. The victim is the young talent Felix Bähker, who suffered a serious crash at the second round of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship (LINK) during a very demanding and sometimes very dangerous first day of riding – according to some participants. The accident did not occur in the dangerous sections, but at a faster speed in a forest in extremely dusty conditions. As a result, visibility was extremely limited. Felix is said to have run into a slower rider and left the lane on the narrow trail to overtake. In the process, he most likely hit a tree stump and had a serious accident.
Currently, there is talk of a broken vertebra. He has already undergone surgery in Portugal to reduce the pressure on the spinal cord and to fix the neighboring vertebral bodies at a distance. In the background, his best friend Milan Schmüser, together with his family, has pulled out all the stops to guarantee the best possible care.
Despite its extensive coverage, it is currently questionable whether the insurance companies will cover the costs, as the well-known passage ‚… to achieve top speeds…‘ in the general terms and conditions denies coverage by the insurance companies in Germany when participating in competitions. This seems to be affecting Felix in his absolute emergency situation at the moment, which is why Milan Schmüser has launched a fundraising campaign to be able to take the financial pressure off him and his family as quickly as possible. Because the costs are already enormous and more will definitely come to the family in the following months for any additional surgeries and rehabilitation stays that may become necessary. Not to mention the transport costs.
