GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona has taken an emphatic home win in the AKRAPOVIC Super Test at round six of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship in Darfo Boario Terme, Italy.

  • AKRAPOVIC Super Test opens POLISPORT GP of Italy
  • Passionate Italian spectators line the course to watch
  • Home hero Andrea Verona sets the fastest time

The POLISPORT GP of Italy roared into life on Friday evening in Darfo Boario Terme, with hordes of spectators lining the AKRAPOVIC Super Test to watch the racing unfold. Despite some light rain at times, the Italians proved why they are one of the world’s most passionate enduro nations by cheering every rider through the slippery and demanding course.

As the competitors filtered through the test, it was clear that one of the leading EnduroGP riders was going to stamp their mark on the evening’s racing. After a solid time was set by Sherco Racing Factory’s Theo Espinasse, it was TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Zach Pichon who knocked Espinasse out of the hot seat with just GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia left to run.

With Pichon setting a benchmark time over 2.5 seconds quicker than Espinasse, both Verona and Garcia would need to give it their all to topple the Frenchman. Racing head-to-head, the pair battled their way around the high-speed course, with Verona eventually clocking the fastest time.

In the end, it was Verona who won by just 0.06 seconds over Garcia, with Pichon only a further 0.05 seconds behind in third. With the trio separated by 0.11 seconds, it’s clear we are in for some incredible battles this weekend at the POLISPORT GP of Italy.

Although pushed back to fourth, Espinasse could be pleased with his effort, beating teammate Hamish Macdonald in fifth by 0.12 seconds.

In the Junior Enduro class, it was Ox Moto Beta’s Leo Joyon who rode to the fastest time. He topped his class by just over one second, leading home a French 1-2-3, ahead of Clement Clauzier (Beta) and Thibault Giraudon (Sherco).

The Youth Enduro category saw championship leader Team KTM Pro Racing Sport’s Romain Dagna get his POLISPORT GP of Italy off to a perfect start by placing fastest. France’s Valentin Mersin (Fantic) took second, with Fraiser Lampkin (Beta) in third.

Andrea Verona (GASGAS): “I’m so happy to get the Super Test win tonight. With it being my home race, the feeling is incredible here with all the spectators. The track was super slippery in places, so you had to be really careful not to crash. But I managed a successful run through and got the victory!”
