Der erste Lauf zur FIM Hardenduro Weltmeisterschaft in Portugal steht anscheinend unter keinem guten Stern. Denn auf Grund eines Corona-Hot-Spots in genau dieser Region hat das Portugiesische Gesundheitsministerium am Donnerstag den 06. Mai 2021 bekannt gegeben, dass alle internationalen Sportveranstaltungen hinter verschlossenen Türen abgehalten werden müssen. Ist das das Aus für das berüchtigte Extreme XL Lagares mit seinen berüchtigten Bachbetten und Fels-Formationen?
Obwohl die Gesamtanzahl der Covid-Infektionen in Portugal sehr gering ist, befindet sich dieser Hot Spot genau in der Region, in der ein Großteil der geplanten Extreme XL Lagares Strecke hindurch führt. Daher betrifft diese amtliche Entscheidung sowohl den für Samstag geplanten Prolog als auch das Finale, so dass beide Läufe abgesagt wurden!
Doch nicht so schnell, denn der Veranstalter von Extreme XL Lagares, die WESS Promotion GmbH und die FIM haben gemeinsam einen alternativen Veranstaltungsplan erarbeitet, der sicherstellt, dass alle 350 Teilnehmer einschließlich der 56 FIM Hardenduro-Weltmeisterschaftsfahrer in Portugal fahren können – nur eben in einer Covid freien Blase.
Dies ist nur möglich, weil sich das neue Fahrerlager und die Endurocross-Strecke in einem geschlossenen Militärgebiet mit unabhängiger Verwaltung befinden und alle Fahrer und das gesamte Hilfspersonal beim Betreten der Anlage auf Covid getestet werden.

Als kleine Entschädigung dürfen alle Amateure ihren Nenngebühr in die 2022er Ausgabe des Extreme XL Lagares übertragen und können somit bei dieser Ausgabe kostenlos starten.
Das neue Format der Veranstaltung beginnt nach ursprünglicher Planung. Über das Endurocross qualifiziert sich heute die Amateure und morgen die Profis. Am Sonntag, den 9. Mai 2021 erstellen die Veranstalter eine Hardenduro-Schleife auf dem Militärgelände und rund um das Fahrerlager, die gleichzeitig einige Streckenanteile des Endurocross-Tracks beinhaltet. Am Sonntag werden drei Finalläufe für die 20 bestqualifizierten Profi-Fahrer ausgetragen. Der Fahrer mit dem besten Gesamtergebnis wird zum Sieger des ersten Laufs der FIM Hardenduro-Weltmeisterschaft 2021 gekürt.
Damit hat erneut und unbarmherzig Covid-19 zugeschlagen, was dazu führt, dass die bekannt extrem schwierige Streckenführung durch die einmaligen Bäche nicht befahren werden kann. Dennoch zeigt man Kante und organisiert kurzfristig um, so dass das aus ganz Europa angereiste Teilnehmerfeld nicht vor verschlossenen Türen steht – Respekt an die Organisation!
The first round of the FIM Hardenduro World Championship in Portugal is apparently not under a good star. Because of a corona hot spot in exactly this region, the Portuguese Ministry of Health announced on Thursday, May 6th, 2021 that all international sporting events must be held behind closed doors. Is that the end of the infamous Extreme XL Lagares with its special stream beds and rock formations?
Although the total number of Covid infections in Portugal is very low, this hot spot is located exactly in the region where a large part of the planned Extreme XL Lagares track leads through. Therefore, this official decision affects both the prologue planned for Saturday and the final, so both runs have been canceled!
But not so fast, because the organizer of Extreme XL Lagares, WESS Promotion GmbH and FIM have jointly developed an alternative event plan that ensures that all 350 participants, including the 56 FIM Hardenduro World Championship riders can drive in Portugal – just in one Covid free bladder.
This is only possible because the new paddock and the endurocross track are located in a closed military area with independent administration and all drivers and all auxiliary staff are tested for Covid when entering the facility.

As a small compensation, all amateurs can transfer their entry fee to the 2022 edition of the Extreme XL Lagares and can thus start this edition free of charge.
The new format of the event begins according to the original plan. The amateurs qualify today via Endurocross and the professionals tomorrow. On Sunday, May 9th, 2021, the organizers will create a hardenduro loop on the military site and around the paddock, which will also include some parts of the endurocross track. On Sunday, three finals will be held for the 20 best qualified professional drivers. The driver with the best overall result will be crowned the winner of the first round of the FIM Hardenduro World Championship in 2021.
So Covid-19 struck again and mercilessly, which means that the known extremely difficult route through the unique streams cannot be traveled. Nevertheless, one shows edge and reorganizes at short notice, so that the field of participants who have traveled from all over Europe does not stand in front of closed doors – respect to the organization!
