Totgesagte leben länger oder anders gesagt hielt bis dato heute nur Yamaha als einziger offizieller Vertreter der japanischen Motorrad-Gilde an seinen bis heute konkurrenzfähigen Zweitaktern der YZ-Baureihe fest. Obwohl die anderen drei großen japanischen Hersteller die Produktion seit Jahren eingestellt haben.
Umso mehr sorgt Yamaha mit seinen neuen 2022er Modellen für eine absolute Überraschung. Warum? Weil man an den teilweise noch von vor 2008 stammenden Vergaser-Modellen intensiv Hand angelegt hat. Ob das Yamaha selbst in die Hand genommen hat oder durch das Engagement von Fantic Motor auf baugleichen Modellen herrührt bleibt unkommentiert, was aber letzten Endes auch egal ist. Wichtig ist, dass es für die Zweitakt-Fans dort draußen, trotz aller teilweise fragwürdige Auflagen im Sinne des Umwelt- und Klimaschutzes definitiv weiter geht. Das simple Prinzip eines Zweitakt-Motors ist hinsichtlich seiner tatsächlichen Nutzungsdauer – auch nach über 10, 20 und 30 Jahren wie die Klassik-Szene beweist – dem technisch viel aufwendigerem Viertakt-Prinzip klar überlegen. Weniger ist mehr und das setzt sich auch in diesem Bereich ungebremst fort.
Und Yamaha scheint derselben Überzeugung zu sein und verpasst der YZ 125 einen komplett neu entwickelten Hochleistungsmotor, ein deutlich optimiertes Fahrwerks und schlankere sowie radikalere Anbauteile für ein schnittiges Aussehen und zeitgemäßeres Bodywork. Das macht sie wohl zur wettbewerbsfähigsten 125er Zweitakter aus dem Hause Yamaha, so wie der Hersteller selbst schreibt. Damit einher geht eine deutlich höhere Motorleistung, eine einfacherer Fahrbarkeit für den Piloten sowie ein noch besseres Handling, was sich gerade für die aufstrebende junge Fahrer-Riege empfiehlt.

Those who are said to be dead live longer or, to put it another way, only Yamaha as the only official representative of the Japanese motorcycle guild has held on to its two-stroke YZ series, which is still competitive today. Although the other three major Japanese manufacturers have ceased production for years.
Yamaha is all the more surprising with its new 2022 models. Why? Because the carburetor models, some of which were built before 2008, have been worked on intensively. Whether Yamaha took it into their own hands or is due to the commitment of Fantic Motor on identical models remains uncommented, but in the end it doesn’t matter. It is important that for the two-stroke fans out there, despite all the partly questionable requirements in terms of environmental and climate protection, things definitely continue. The simple principle of a two-stroke engine is clearly superior to the technically much more complex four-stroke principle in terms of its actual service life – even after more than 10, 20 and 30 years as the classic scene proves. Less is more and this continues unabated in this area as well.
And Yamaha seems to be of the same conviction and has given the YZ 125 a completely newly developed high-performance engine, a significantly optimized chassis and slimmer and more radical add-on parts for a sleek appearance and more contemporary bodywork. That probably makes them the most competitive 125cc two-stroke from Yamaha, as the manufacturer himself writes. This goes hand in hand with significantly higher engine power, easier drivability for the pilot and even better handling, which is particularly recommended for the up-and-coming young driver squad.
