England, Südwales… genauer gesagt im legendären Offroad-Park „Walters Arena“ traf sich ein Teil der Hardenduro-Weltelite und legte im Rahmen der britischen Hardenduro-Meisterschaft (2. Lauf) einen Outdoor-Trainingseinsatz während der laufenden Indoor SuperEnduro-Meisterschaft ein.
Aus deutscher Sicht waren Manuel Lettenbichler sowie Felix Bähker am Start, die den Briten à la Asterix & Obelix mächtig einheizten.
Insgesamt wurden drei Rennen ausgetragen: Ein 2h-Lite-Rennen am Samstag, an dem auch die großen Donnerbolzen mit über 575 Kubikzentimetern Hubraum teilnahmen, gefolgt von einem 2h-Rennen am Sonntag sowie danach das große 3h-Rennen der Experten, an dem auch noch die „Clubman“ und „Elite Vets 40+“ am Start waren. Insgesamt meldeten sich erstaunliche 830 Fahrer für das Event an, während in der Expert-Klasse ganze 73 Hartgesottene am Start standen.
Die wohl stärksten Konkurrenten von Letti waren ohne Zweifel die Lokalmatadore. Und das war eine gewaltige Anzahl von Spitzenfahrern wie beispielsweise die Brightmore-Brüder, Jonny Walker auf seiner Beta, Richard Moorhouse, Jack Price, Paul Bolton, Will Hoare und viele weitere.

Zunächst ging es mit 193 Startern ins Qualifying, das über zwei Runden lief. Dabei entscheid die schnellste Runde über den Startplatz im Hauptrennen – folglich nur zwei Chancen, die es nicht zu verhauen galt. Unter 10 Minuten je Runde blieben nur sechs Fahrer: Lettenbichler, Walker, Brightmore, Hoare und Paul Bolton. Dabei war es zwischen Letti und Walker am engsten, bei denen nur knapp drei Sekunden über Sieg oder Niederlage entschieden.

Am Sonntag folgte dann das große Finale über drei Runden, die natürlich deutlich länger und anspruchsvoller waren. Wegen des terrassenförmigen Streckenlayouts gab es immer wieder spektakuläre Highspeed-Sprinteinlagen zwischen den anspruchsvollen Anstiegen auf rutschigen Schiefergestein und Wurzeln zu absolvieren. Entsprechend heiß ging es an diesen Stellen auch bei den Zuschauern her, wenn die 300er Zweitakter am Drehzahllimit mit Vollgas vorbeiprügelten.
Manuel Lettenbichler hatte einen derart guten Rhythmus, dass er die britische Konkurrenz einen Rückstand von satten 10 Minuten aufbrummte. Das war natürlich ein herber Schlag für die Lokalmatadore. Gut, dafür ist Letti auch ein Werksfahrer und mehrfacher Weltmeister, während Jonny Walker und die Brightmore-Brüder genau genommen als top Privatfahrer mit Unterstützung eingestuft werden müssen. Sehr gut aus der Affäre zog sich auch Felix Bähker mit Gesamtplatz zehn, der damit den Altmeister Paul Bolton um knapp 12 Sekunden schlug.

Das dieses Event für Letti natürlich ein ideales Training für den Auftakt der FIM Hardenduro Weltmeisterschaft im Mai an gleichem Ort war, steht außer Frage. Währenddessen konnte Mitch Brightmore seine Führung gegenüber Jonny Walker in der British Extreme Enduro Meisterschaft ausbauen, da dieses Event gleichzeitig den zweiten Lauf zur diesem Championat darstellte.

England, South Wales… more precisely in the legendary off-road park ‚Walters Arena‘, part of the hardenduro world elite met and did an outdoor training session during the ongoing indoor SuperEnduro championship as part of the British Hardenduro Championship (2nd round).
From a German perspective, Manuel Lettenbichler and Felix Bähker were at the start, who really heated up the Brits à la Asterix & Obelix.
A total of three races were held: a 2-hour lite race on Saturday, in which the big thunderbolts with over 575 cubic centimeters of displacement also took part, followed by a 2-hour race on Sunday and then the big 3-hour race of the experts, in which also the ‚Clubman‘ and ‚Elite Vets 40+‘ were at the start. In total, an astonishing 830 riders registered for the event, while a whopping 73 hard-core riders took part in the Expert class.
Letti’s strongest competitors were without a doubt the local heroes. And that was a huge number of top riders such as the Brightmore brothers, Jonny Walker on his Beta, Richard Moorhouse, Jack Price, Paul Bolton, Will Hoare and many more.

First, 193 starters went into qualifying, which ran over two laps. The fastest lap decides the starting position in the main race – therefore only two chances that didn’t have to be missed. Only six drivers stayed under 10 minutes per lap: Lettenbichler, Walker, Brightmore, Hoare and Paul Bolton. It was closest between Letti and Walker, with just under three seconds deciding whether to win or lose.

The big final followed on Sunday over three rounds, which were of course much longer and more demanding. Because of the terraced route layout, there were always spectacular high-speed sprints to be completed between the demanding climbs on slippery slate rock and roots. It was correspondingly hot with the spectators in these places when the 300cc two-stroke engines smashed past the speed limit at full throttle.
Manuel Lettenbichler had such a good rhythm that he left the British competition behind by a whopping 10 minutes. That was of course a bitter blow for the local heroes. Well, Letti is also a works driver and multiple world champion, while Jonny Walker and the Brightmore brothers have to be classified as top private drivers with support. Felix Bähker also came out of the affair very well with tenth place overall, beating the old master Paul Bolton by just under 12 seconds.

There is no question that this event was of course ideal training for Letti for the start of the FIM Hardenduro World Championship in May at the same location. Meanwhile, Mitch Brightmore was able to extend his lead over Jonny Walker in the British Extreme Enduro Championship, as this event also marked the second round of the championship.
