Der dritte Offroad-Tag der Red Bull Romaniacs war der bislang härteste für die Gold-Klasse. Auf den Signature-Abschnitten ‘K2’, ‘Beer Bar’, ‘Lost world’, ‘Kill’em all’, ‘No Sex’, ‘Galindo’ und ‘Long walk‘ kamen alle fahrerisch und konditionell an ihre Grenzen. Doch zumindest das Wetter war gnädig und ließ die Tracks bei blauem Himmel trocken und griffig. Durch das Unwetter an Tag eins waren die Zeitabstände in der Gesamtwertung noch immer sehr groß, sodass es für einige Fahrer viel aufzuholen galt: Mani Lettenbichler (DEU, KTM) lag nach dem zweiten Offroad-Tag 37 Minuten und 47 Sekunden vor Trystan Hart (CAN, KTM) auf Rang zwei.
Alle starteten bereits mit hohem Tempo in den dritten Tag, bis es am Klassiker „Brother of K2“ in die LIVEmaniacs-Sektion ging. Steile Hänge mit Zick-Zack-Kehren, Felskanten und schmale Grate erwarteten sie dort, doch auch hier kamen die Fahrer gut durch. Mani Lettenbichler scheint bei den diesjährigen Red Bull Romaniacs in einer eigenen Liga zu fahren: Am dritten Tag in Folge fuhr er vorne weg und blieb an der Spitze der Gold-Fahrer. Auch in der LIVEmaniacs-Sektion schaffte er es heute endlich, die beste Zeit einzufahren. Teo Kabakchiev (BGR, Econt) holte sich gestern den Tagessieg und wusste, dass er zeitlich trotzdem noch aufholen musste, um seinen fünften Gesamtrang zu verbessern. Billy Bolt (GBR, Husqvarna) sah nach gestern eine echte Chance, aufs Podium zu fahren und gab heute nochmal alles. Als Drittschnellster kam er aus den LIVEmaniacs und blieb Kabakchiev auf den Fersen, der das Tempo vorgab.
Im Laufe des Tages und noch vor dem Servicepunkt wurden die Fahrer regelrecht bombardiert mit steilen, technischen Auffahrten. In der Signature-Sektion „No Sex“ mit ihren fiesen Felswänden und der steilen Auffahrt wurde es dann interessant: Kabakchiev konnte endlich zu Mani Lettenbichler aufschließen, während Billy hier wertvolle Zeit verlor.

Mario Roman (ESP) war entschlossen, die Zeit wieder gut zu machen, die er durch technische Probleme an Tag eins und zwei verlor und zeigte seinen Kampfgeist bereits mit der zweitschnellsten Zeit in den LIVEmaniacs. Die technischen Sektionen liegen ihm besonders – diesen Vorteil nutzte er am Vormittag und erreichte den Servicepunkt als Zweiter. Michael Walkner (AUT, GASGAS) zeigte sich extrem stark, ließ Wade Young (ZAF, Sherco) den ganzen Morgen über nicht aus den Augen und schaffte es schließlich, sich in den endlosen technischen Sektionen vor dem Service an ihm und Billy Bolt vorbei zu arbeiten.
Nach diesem extrem harten Tag lieferten folgende Gold-Fahrer die schnellsten Zeiten:

In der Gesamtwertung hält Mani Lettenbichler die Führung mit mittlerweile knapp 1h Vorsprung, gefolgt von Trystan Hart und Billy Bolt. Kabakchiev liegt insgesamt nun noch weniger als fünf Minuten hinter Bolt, er wird also morgen nochmal alles aus sich rausholen, um wieder auf dem Podium zu stehen – auch wenn Billy seinen Platz dort sicher nicht einfach so hergeben wird.

Graham Jarvis, siebenfacher Red Bull Romaniacs Champion und ein Meister im Kraftsparen, Abwägen, Spurensuchen und Grip finden, fuhr heute konstant und konnte seinen achten Rang in der Tages- und Gesamtwertung halten. Seit dem körperlich anstrengenden Tag eins fährt er im Überlebensmodus, wie er sagte.
Sonny Goggia (ITA) fuhr ebenfalls ein starkes Rennen in der Gold-Klasse und lieferte sich einen langen Kampf mit Jarvis. Er erreichte das Ziel mit der zehntschnellsten Zeit und liegt insgesamt auf Rang neun. Matthew Green (ZAF), der 2022 die FIM Hardenduro Junior Weltmeisterschaft gewann, stellte sein Können neben den großen Playern unter Beweis und kam mit der neuntschnellsten Zeit ins Ziel und ist nun Zehnter in der Gesamtwertung.
Mani Lettenbichler (KTM): „Definitiv anstrengend und lang zum Servicepunkt, da ließen die Kräfte schon langsam nach. Besonders die „No Sex“-Auffahrt war krass und ich bin froh im Ziel zu sein. Ich würde sagen, das waren definitiv die härtesten Romaniacs bislang. Einige der Klassiker, die jedes Jahr drin sind, sind echt noch gut fahrbar, und andere… es hängt eben viel vom Wetter ab. Ich freue mich auf morgen!“
Mario Roman (Sherco): „Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich heute gut gefahren bin, vor allem in den technischen Abschnitten. Bisher war es eine harte Woche für mich und ich konnte nicht wirklich zeigen, was ich kann, aber heute passte alles zusammen. Ich mag es, wenn es immer wieder schwierige Abschnitte gibt und die haben wir auf jeden Fall bewältigt!“
Michael Walkner (GASGAS): „Der Tag war gut. Bis zum Servicepunkt war es wirklich lang und intensiv. Im Abschnitt „LIVEmaniacs“ war ich nicht besonders gut, aber danach genoss ich die langen Anstiege und fand einen guten Rhythmus.“
Trystan Hart (KTM): „Ich bin müde, jetzt tut mir alles weh! Aber es war ein guter Tag, obwohl er super lang und schwierig war. Mein Ziel ist es, am letzten Tag stark abzuschneiden und zu versuchen, das Podium zu erreichen, auf das ich abgezielt habe.“
Teodor Kabakchiev (KTM): „Am Anfang habe ich Zeit verloren, aber Mani fuhr einfach auf einem super hohen Niveau. Nachdem er mich in LIVEmaniacs eingeholt und überholt hatte, gelang es mir erst nach einem langen Anstieg, wieder aufzuholen. Aber sein Tempo war so solide und als er sich wieder absetzte, beschloss ich, meinen eigenen Rhythmus zu finden und mein eigenes Tempo zu wählen, mit dem ich mich wohl fühlte. Der Kampf ums Podium ist hart, ich habe eine Chance, also werde ich morgen noch einmal mein Bestes geben.“
Billy Bolt (Husqvarna): „Das war ein harter Tag. Trystan erwischte mich bei einem Anstieg und als wir direkt in einen weiteren Anstieg übergingen, war ich am Limit. Nach dem Servicepunkt habe ich mich etwas neu formiert, aber es war ein brutaler Tag.“
Die Silber-Klasse hatte einen sehr langen, anspruchsvollen Tag. Zwar starteten die Fahrer auf schnellen Abschnitten, kamen dann jedoch zeitnah in die technischen Abschnitte ’Dacian trail’, ‘Perla down’, ‘Lost world’ und ‘Donkey trail’. Steile Auf- und Abfahrten im Romaniacs-Style mit schrägen Baumstämmen zwangen die Fahrer zum Schieben und gegenseitiger Hilfe – insgesamt hatten sie 125 Kilometer zu bezwingen.

Die Bronze-Fahrer wurden heute mit deutlich schwereren Abschnitten und längeren Abfahrten konfrontiert, kamen sich zum Teil vor wie auf Silber-Tracks, wurden dann aber auch mit einigen entspannten Abschnitten belohnt. 121 Kilometer hatten sie heute vor sich. Schütz (CHE) fuhr heute – zwölf Sekunden vor Nistor (ROU) – die schnellsten Zeiten ein. Auch die Damen in Bronze hatten einen starken Tag: Maria Grigoras beeindruckte mit Platz zehn, Tjaša Fifer (SVN) wurde vierzigste.

BIG TWINS – Die Schwergewichte
Der Spanier Pol Tarres musste nach einen Top-Ergebnis am 2. Fahrtag nun richtig federn lassen und kommt mit seiner Tenere 700 nur als 163igster ins Ziel, was ihn auf Gesamtrang 143 zurück wirft. Sein Teamkollege auf gleichem Untersatz Kevin Gallas erging es mit Platz 169 ähnlich, so dass er in der Gesamtwertung auf Platz 155 abrutscht. Es sind einfach 200kg, die hier bewegt werden. Trotzdem Hut ab!
The third off-road day of the Red Bull Romaniacs was the toughest for the gold class so far. On the signature sections ‚K2‘, ‚Beer Bar‘, ‚Lost world‘, ‚Kill’em all‘, ‚No Sex‘, ‚Galindo‘ and ‚Long walk‘ everyone reached their limits in terms of driving and condition. But at least the weather was kind and left the tracks dry and grippy under blue skies. Due to the storm on day one, the time gaps in the overall standings were still very large, so that some riders had a lot of catching up to do: After the second off-road day, Mani Lettenbichler (DEU, KTM) was 37 minutes and 47 seconds ahead of Trystan Hart (CAN , KTM) in second place.
Everyone started the third day at high speed, until the classic ‚Brother of K2‘ in the LIVEmaniacs section. Steep slopes with zig-zag bends, rocky edges and narrow ridges awaited them there, but the drivers managed well here too. Mani Lettenbichler seems to be in a league of his own at this year’s Red Bull Romaniacs: For the third day in a row he rode away and stayed at the top of the gold riders. Also in the LIVEmaniacs section he finally managed to set the best time today. Teo Kabakchiev (BGR, Econt) took the stage win yesterday and knew he still had to make up time to improve on his fifth place overall. Billy Bolt (GBR, Husqvarna) saw a real chance for a podium after yesterday and gave it his all again today. He came out of the LIVEmaniacs as the third fastest and stayed on Kabakchiev’s heels, who set the pace.
During the day and even before the service point, the drivers were literally bombarded with steep, technical climbs. Things got interesting in the signature section ‚No Sex‘ with its nasty rock walls and steep ascent: Kabakchiev was finally able to catch up with Mani Lettenbichler, while Billy lost valuable time here.

Mario Roman (ESP) was determined to make up for the time he lost to technical issues on days one and two and already showed his fighting spirit with the second fastest time in the LIVEmaniacs. He particularly likes the technical sections – he used this advantage in the morning and reached the service point in second place. Michael Walkner (AUT, GASGAS) was extremely strong, keeping an eye on Wade Young (ZAF, Sherco) all morning and finally managing to work his way past him and Billy Bolt in the endless technical sections before service .
After this extremely tough day, the following Gold drivers delivered the fastest times:

In the overall standings, Mani Lettenbichler holds the lead with a lead of almost 1 hour, followed by Trystan Hart and Billy Bolt. Kabakchiev is now less than five minutes behind Bolt overall, so he’ll be doing his best to get back on the podium tomorrow – although Billy certainly won’t give up his place there easily.

Graham Jarvis, seven-time Red Bull Romaniacs Champion and a master at saving energy, weighing up, searching for tracks and finding grip, rode consistently today and was able to maintain his eighth place in the daily and overall rankings. He’s been driving in survival mode since the physically demanding day one, he said.
Sonny Goggia (ITA) also had a strong race in the Gold class and had a long battle with Jarvis. He crossed the finish line with the tenth fastest time and is ninth overall. Matthew Green (ZAF), who won the 2022 FIM Hardenduro Junior World Championship, showed his skills alongside the big players and finished ninth fastest and is now tenth overall.

Mani Lettenbichler (KTM): ‚Definitely exhausting and a long way to the service point, by which time my strength was slowly fading. The ‚No Sex‘ climb in particular was awesome and I’m happy to have crossed the finish line. I would say it was definitely the toughest Romaniacs so far. Some of the classics that are in there every year are still really rideable, and others… it depends a lot on the weather. I look forward to tomorrow!‘
Mario Roman (Sherco): ‚I feel like I rode well today, especially in the technical sections. So far it’s been a tough week for me and I haven’t really been able to show what I can do, but today everything came together. I like it when there are always difficult sections and we definitely overcame them!‘
Michael Walkner (GASGAS): ‚The day was good. It was really long and intense up to the service point. I wasn’t very good in the LIVEmaniacs section, but after that I enjoyed the long climbs and found a good rhythm.”
Trystan Hart (KTM): ‚I’m tired, everything hurts now! But it was a good day despite being super long and difficult. My goal is to do strong on the last day and try to get that podium I was aiming for.”
Teodor Kabakchiev (KTM): ‚In the beginning I lost time, but Mani just rode at a super high level. After he caught and passed me in LIVEmaniacs, I only managed to catch up again after a long climb. But his pace was so solid and when he broke away again I decided to find my own rhythm and choose my own pace that I was comfortable with. The fight for the podium is tough, I have a chance, so I will do my best again tomorrow.”
Billy Bolt (Husqvarna): “It was a tough day. Trystan caught me on a climb and when we went straight into another climb I was at the limit. I regrouped a bit after the service point, but it was a brutal day.”
The silver class had a very long, demanding day. Although the riders started on fast sections, they quickly got to the technical sections ‚Dacian trail‘, ‚Perla down‘, ‚Lost world‘ and ‚Donkey trail‘. Steep ascents and descents in Romaniacs style with sloping tree trunks forced the riders to push and help each other – they had to conquer a total of 125 kilometers.

The bronze riders were confronted with significantly more difficult sections and longer descents today, sometimes felt like they were on silver tracks, but were then also rewarded with some relaxed sections. They had 121 kilometers ahead of them today. Schütz (CHE) set the fastest times today – twelve seconds ahead of Nistor (ROU). The bronze medal women also had a strong day: Maria Grigoras impressed with tenth place, Tjaša Fifer (SVN) was fortieth.

BIG TWINS – The heavyweights
The Spaniard Pol Tarres had to give up after a top result on the 2nd day of riding and only finished 163rd with his Tenere 700, which throws him back to 143rd place overall. His teammate on the same base Kevin Gallas fared similarly with 169th place, so that he slipped down to 155th place in the overall standings. There are simply 200kg that are moved here. Nevertheless, hats off!
