Sherco wird es definitiv nicht und auch die Österreicher mit ihren drei Marken und einem siegesfähigen Zweitakter kommen nicht in Frage. Beta ist Geschichte, dann bleiben nur noch Moto TM aus Italien und Rieju. Und zu guter Letzt hätte man noch eine Option mit einer modifizierten Yamaha YZ250 oder Fantic, was aber mit dem Fünfgang-Crossgetriebe absolut kein Wunschkandidat für den Einsatzweck von Jonny Walker sein dürfte. Es geht dabei ja nicht nur um die Möglichkeit weiterhin im SuperEnduro und Hardenduro nur unterwegs zu sein, sondern einen siegfähigen Untersatz zu haben.
Die Spatzen haben es bereits schon mehrere Wochen lang von den Dächern gepfiffen, dass Triumph ein heißer Kandidat wäre und genau so ist es jetzt auch gekommen. Dafür muss sich Jonny definitiv auf das neue Viertakt-Aggregat umstellen und dann noch das volle Potenzial aus dem kleinen Hubraum herauszuholen, denn die Konkurrenz steht definitiv mit Leistung- und drehmomentstärkeren Aggregaten am Start. Vom genialen Handling eines 300er Zweitakters ganz zu schweigen und Jonny hatte bislang auch eher weniger auf Viertaktern seine Arbeit verrichtet..
Vorerst hat Jonny Walker nur einen Factory Ride für die FIM SuperEnduro Weltmeisterschaft erhalten. Mit sieben Rennen – hoffen wir das sie auch alle stattfinden – ist das Programm äußerst intensiv und geht bis in den März 2025.

Zudem geht es über den großen Teich, um in der AMA EnduroCross Rennserie den Amerikanern ordentlich einzuheizen. Auch ist die Teilnahme an ausgewählten EnduroGP-Rennen und Hardenduro-Rennen geplant. Das wird für das Team definitiv nicht einfach, denn Paul Edmondson als Teammanager, muss hier einiges unter einen Hut bringen, so dass vermutlich nicht alles in vollem Umfang umsetzbar sein wird.

Jonny wird am 5. Oktober beim Indoor Enduro of Champions in der Utilita Arena in Newcastle sein erstes Wettkampfdebüt auf seiner 250er geben. Für die Hardenduro-WM wird sich konzeptioniell die 250er alles andere als sinnvoll erweisen, so dass eine ernsthafte Teilnehme im Kampf um die Krone eher ausgeschlossen werden kann.
Jonny Walker: „Ich freue mich wirklich, bei Triumph dabei zu sein! Es ist etwas Besonderes, der erste Fahrer zu sein, der Triumph Racing im Enduro-Sport vertritt. Es ist großartig, Teil des Teams zu sein und ich freue mich auf die zukünftige Zusammenarbeit mit Triumph. Mein Bike fühlt sich jetzt schon großartig an, was meine Arbeit viel einfacher macht! Es ist großartig Paul Edmondson an Bord zu haben. Er verfügt über so viel Erfahrung, nicht nur in der Führung erfolgreicher Teams, sondern auch im Rennsport selbst, was von unschätzbarem Wert sein wird. Einen britischen Manager zu haben, der ein britisches Team mit einem britischen Fahrer leitet ist wirklich aufregend und etwas, dass man nicht oft erlebt. Hoffentlich können wir einen guten Start hinlegen und einige Meisterschaften gewinnen!“

Sherco definitely won’t and the Austrians with their three brands and a winning two-stroke engine are also out of the question. Beta is history, then only Moto TM from Italy and Rieju remain. And last but not least, you would have an option with a modified Yamaha YZ250 or Fantic, which, with the five-speed cross gearbox, would definitely not be a ideal candidate for Jonny Walker’s intended use. It’s not just about the possibility of continuing to race in SuperEnduro and Hard Enduro, but also about having a vehicle capable of winning.
The sparrows have been whistling from the rooftops for several weeks that Triumph would be a hot candidate and that’s exactly what happened now. To do this, Jonny definitely has to switch to the new four-stroke unit and then get the full potential out of the small displacement, because the competition is definitely at the start with units with higher power and torque. Not to mention the brilliant handling of a 300 two-stroke engine and Jonny had done less work on four-stroke engines so far.
For now, Jonny Walker has only received one factory ride for the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. With seven races – we hope they all take place – the program is extremely intensive and runs until March 2025.

We’re also heading across the pond to really heat up the Americans in the AMA EnduroCross racing series. Participation in selected EnduroGP races and hard enduro races is also planned. This definitely won’t be easy for the team, because Paul Edmondson, as team manager, has to juggle a lot, so probably not everything will be fully implementable.

Jonny will make his competitive debut on his 250cc on October 5th at the Indoor Enduro of Champions at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. For the Hard Enduro World Championship, the 250cc will prove to be anything but conceptually sensible, meaning that serious participation in the fight for the crown can be ruled out.
