Beim dritten Lauf der FIM Hardenduro-Weltmeisterschaft bei der Xross Hardenduro Rally ging am dritten Offroad-Tag nochmal heftig zur Sache, auch wenn viele schon glaubten, dass der Sieger schon fest stand.
Als Young mit satten neun Minuten und 24 Sekunden Vorsprung vor Teodor Kabakchiev von Sherco Factory Racing den letzten Wettkampftag der Xross Hardenduro Rally in Angriff nahm, hatte er den Sieg praktisch schon vor Augen. Jetzt hieß es sauber fahren nicht zu überstürzen und mit taktischer Raffinesse den Vorsprung ins Ziel bringen. Ist es so gekommen? Der letzte Fahrtag war alles andere als ein Spaziergang und kann als brutal bezeichnet werden. Zudem war Teodor Kabakchiev maximal motiviert, um dem Südafrikaner den Spitzenplatz in jeder Sekunde streitig zu machen.
Da in Serbien die Temperaturen auf über 30 Grad klettern, haben die Organisatoren die Strecke geändert, um die Intensität der anspruchsvollsten Abschnitte zu verringern. Aber da für die Mehrheit der Top-Fahrer immer noch mehr als dreieinhalb Stunden Fahrzeit geplant waren, war klar, dass das kein Spaziergang werden würde. Mit mehr als neun Minuten Vorsprung auf seinen Rivalen Young gab Kabakchiev heute alles, um den Südafrikaner noch niederzuringen. Der Bulgare machte mächtig Druck und hatte nach neun von elf Sektoren den Rückstand auf etwas mehr als drei Minuten verkürzt – Wow.
Als direkte Reaktion darauf setzte Young in den letzten beiden Sektoren nochmal nach und hielt den Sherco-Fahrer mit minimalem Aufwand in Schach. Mit der schnellsten Zeit im letzten Sektor machte der Südafrikaner alles klar für den Sieg beim dritten Lauf zur FIM Hardenduro-Weltmeisterschaft. Damit sichert sich Wade Young zugleich die Tabellenführung in der WM-Meisterschaft.
Kabakchiev legte am dritten Offroad-Tag eine unglaubliche Fahrt hin und wurde für seine Bemühungen mit dem heutigen Sieg belohnt. Im Gesamtklassement müsste er sich jedoch mit dem zweiten Platz begnügen. Am Ende kam er nach fast 13 Rennstunden bei der Xross Hardenduro Rallye nur zwei Minuten und 42 Sekunden hinter Young ins Ziel.
Der Österreicher Michael Walkner (GASGAS) erlebte einen soliden letzten Tag in Serbien und landete als Dritter auf dem Podium.
Ein starker letzter Tag von Mario Roman (Sherco) brachte ihm heute den vierten Platz ein und festigte damit seinen vierten Gesamtrang in der dritten Runde. David Cyprian (KTM) krönte ebenfalls ein unglaubliches Event und sicherte sich im Rennen den fünften Gesamtrang, sein bislang bestes Ergebnis in der FIM Hardenduro-Weltmeisterschaft. Und unsere Legende Grahame Jarvis holte nach seinem fulminanten Sieg am zweiten Fahrtag einen soliden 9. Platz am finalen Tag, was ihn nach der schlechten Platzierung am ersten Tag immerhin noch vor auf den 7. Gesamtrang bei diesem Event katapultierte.
Brightmore holte sich den Sieg bei den Junioren
In der von FIM Hardenduro Junior World Championship brachte der letzte Renntag tatsächlich den erhofften Tribünenabschluss. Zu Beginn des Tages hatte James Moore von Rigo Racing einen Vorsprung von zwei Minuten vor Suff Sella von AG Racing, während Mitch Brightmore von TTR Squadra Corse weitere zwei Minuten dahinter auf dem dritten Platz lag.
Brightmore machte am dritten Offroad-Tag ernst, um seine Siegesserie fortzusetzen. Nachdem er sowohl Sella als auch Moore überholen konnte, setzte sich an die Spitze und lag bald darauf mit der korrigierten Zeit in Führung. Mit dem sechsten Platz an diesem Tag und dem sechsten Gesamtrang in der Endwertung landete Brightmore nun zum dritten Mal in Folge in dieser Saison ganz oben auf dem Junior-Podium.
Obwohl er die letzte Hürde nicht geschafft hat, kann Moore dennoch mit seiner monumentalen Leistung bei der diesjährigen Xross Hardenduro Rally zufrieden sein. Mit dem achten Platz in der Gesamtwertung, seinem besten Karriereergebnis, holte er sich den zweiten Platz bei den Junioren hinter Brightmore.
Auch der Kampf um den letzten Platz auf dem Podium wechselten am dritten Offroad-Tag die Plätze. Sella verlor viel Zeit während Ashton Brightmore schnell Kapital daraus schlagen konnte und mit einer starken Fahrt am letzten Tag seine TTR Squadra Corse Husqvarna auf den dritten Gesamtrang katapultierte.
Richard Moorhouse von Beta UK beendete die dritte Runde der Junioren als Gesamtvierter, während Marc Fernandez (KTM) die Top Fünf komplettierte.
Nach einer hart umkämpften dritten Runde in Serbien blickt die FIM Hardenduro Weltmeisterschaft nun auf die vierte Runde bei den Red Bull Romaniacs in Rumänien vom 23. bis 27. Juli.
Wade Young (GASGAS): „Ich bin so glücklich, die Aufgabenstellung dieses Woche so gut erledigt zu haben. Es war ein fantastisches Rennen, die Hitze war super hart, aber ich habe es geliebt. Mein Bike hat die ganze Woche perfekt funktioniert. Ich kann den Jungs von Red Bull Leader Tread gar nicht genug dafür danken, dass sie dieses Ergebnis ermöglicht haben.“
Teodor Kabakchiev (Sherco): „Ich habe heute alles gegeben. Ich denke, das ist das Beste, was ich seit langem gefahren bin. Das ist eines meiner Lieblingsrennen. Es ist etwas ganz Besonderes, in Serbien um die Weltmeisterschaft zu fahren. Es wäre großartig gewesen, ganz oben auf dem Podium zu stehen, aber ich bin zufrieden mit meiner Fahrt, ich habe alles gegeben.“
Michael Walkner (GASGAS): „Ich habe heute mit Mario hart gekämpft. Ich wusste, dass es zwischen uns eng werden würde, also versuchte ich mit aller Kraft den Vorsprung, den ich auf ihn hatte, auszugleichen. Es fühlt sich unglaublich an, bei der Weltmeisterschaft endlich mal wieder auf dem Podium zu stehen!“

Round three of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship at Xross Hard Enduro Rally drew to an exciting close on Offroad Day Three with Red Bull Leader Tread’s Wade Young (GASGAS) securing the top step of the podium in Serbia.
Entering the final day of competition at the Xross Hard Enduro Rally with a healthy nine minute and 24 seconds over Sherco Factory Racing’s Teodor Kabakchiev, Young had a virtual grasp on the winner’s trophy. However, he still needed to overcome a brutally demanding final day to seal the deal. And with Kabakchiev ready to push the South African every step of the way, Young was offered no easy run to the finish line.
With temperatures climbing above 30 degrees in Serbia, organisers modified the course to ease the intensity of the most demanding sections. But, with over three and a half hours of riding planned for the majority of the top riders, Offroad Day Three was still quite the workout.
With over nine minutes to make up on his rival Young, Kabakchiev gave it everything today to reel in the South African. The Bulgarian was pushing hard. After nine of 11 sectors, he had reduced the gap to just over three minutes.
Responding, Young fought back on the final two sectors and kept the Sherco rider at bay. Topping the final sector, he celebrated across the finish line as round three winner of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. His victory now sees him lead the championship standings at the end of round three.
Putting in an incredible ride on Offroad Day Three, Kabakchiev was rewarded for his efforts with today’s win. But in the overall classification, he would have to settle for runner-up. In the end, he finished just two minutes and 42 seconds behind Young after almost 13 hours of racing in the Xross Hard Enduro Rally.
Austria’s Michael Walkner (GASGAS) enjoyed a solid final day in Serbia to complete the podium in third.
A strong final day by Mario Roman (Sherco) saw him place fourth today to cement his position of fourth overall at round three. Also capping off an incredible event, David Cyprian (KTM) secured fifth overall in the race, his best FIM Hard Enduro World Championship result to date.
Brightmore pulls through to win Juniors
In the FIM Hard Enduro Junior World Championship supported by KLIM, the final day of racing did produce the grandstand finish we hoped for. Beginning the day, Rigo Racing’s James Moore held a two-minute lead over AG Racing’s Suff Sella, with TTR Squadra Corse’s Mitch Brightmore a further two minutes behind in third.
Brightmore meant business on Offroad Day Three and set about keeping his run of race wins alive. Reeling in both Sella and Moore, he put himself ahead on the road, and soon afterwards, ahead on corrected time. Placing sixth on the day, and sixth overall in the final standings, Brightmore claimed the top step of the Junior podium for the third consecutive time this season.
Despite coming up short on the final hurdle, Moore could still be pleased with his monumental effort in this year’s Xross Hard Enduro Rally. Regarded as a coming-of-age race for the young South African, his career-best result of eighth overall was enough to see him place as Junior runner-up to Brightmore.
The battle for the final step of the podium also changed hands on Offroad Day Three. Losing a lot of time, Sella slipped down the order. Ashton Brightmore was quick to capitalise, and with a strong ride on the final day, he brought his TTR Squadra Corse Husqvarna home in third overall.
Beta UK’s Richard Moorhouse ended round three fourth overall in Juniors, with Marc Fernandez (KTM) completing the top five.
Fifer wins Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by 24MX
In the Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by 24MX, it was Tjasa Fifer who took home the winner’s trophy. Fifer was the best placed woman rider in round three, thanks to her victory in the Hobby class.
After what’s been a closely fought round three at Xross Hard Enduro Rally in Serbia, the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship now looks towards round four at Red Bull Romaniacs in Romania on July 23-27.
Wade Young (GASGAS): “I’m so happy to get the job done this week and claim the race win. It’s been an amazing race, super tough with the heat, but I’ve loved it. My bike hasn’t skipped a beat all week. I can’t thank the guys at Red Bull Leader Tread enough for their support in making this result happen.”
Teodor Kabakchiev (Sherco): “I gave it my all today. I think that’s the best I’ve rode in a long time. This is one of my favourite races. It’s pretty special to come to race in Serbia for the world championship. It would have been awesome to take the top step of the podium, but I’m pleased with how I rode, I gave it everything.”
Michael Walkner (GASGAS): “I battled back and forth today with Mario. I knew it would be close between us, so I tried hard to manage that gap I had over him. It feels incredible to be on the podium in the world championship!”
