FENIX RALLY 2021: Exklusiv-Interview mit Race Direktor Alexander Kovatchev / Exclusive interview with race director Alexander Kovatchev!

 

1. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Hallo Alex. Erst einmal vielen Dank dafür, dass du dir Zeit für unsere Fragen nimmst. Die Pandemie-Situation stellt zahlreiche Herausforderungen weltweit, unter anderem auch an den Motorsport. Allerdings sind einige Veranstaltungen schon fest im RBI Sport Kalender gelistet und die Vorbereitungen für die Rallye-Saison 2021 laufen ja schon auf Hochtouren. Wie sieht das Rallye-Jahr 2021 der RBI aus?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Hallo Sascha, es ist mir ein Vergnügen. Vielen Dank ebenfalls. Das neue Jahr rückt näher und wir hoffen, dass es gesünder wird und mehr Freiheit für uns alle bringt. Unser Team freut sich bekannt geben zu dürfen, dass drei Rallyes für 2021 fest geplant sind – mit der Option für eine weitere Veranstaltung nach dem Sommer.

Wir starten mit der Fenix Rally vom 13. März bis 20. März 2021 in Tunesien, dann kommt die kompakte und schnelle Baja Europe vom 30. April bis 2.Mai 2021. Und anschließend findet die Offroad Legende Breslau Polen traditionell im Sommer vom 29. Juni bis 3. Juli 2021 statt.

Zusammen mit den festgelegten Terminen führen wir einen alternativen Zeitraum als COVID-19 Back-up ein, den wir als Ersatztermin für eine der genannten Rallyes heranziehen, sofern diese nicht wie ursprünglich geplant durchgeführt werden kann. Sollten jedoch alle drei Veranstaltungen zu den geplanten Terminen stattfinden, so werden wir ein zusätzliches Rallye-Projekt für September/Oktober vorstellen.

Wir leben in der Realität der Pandemie, halten uns strikt an die Einschränkungen und Maßnahmen und legen großen Wert auf Sicherheit. Es ist aktuell keine leichte Aufgabe einen Rennkalender für das ganze Jahr aufzulegen, jedoch glauben wir fest daran, dass wir diese Herausforderung gemeinsam meistern werden.

2. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wie sieht gerade die Situation in Hinblick auf Covid-19 in Tunesien aus?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Die Informationen, die wir von den Behörden in Tunesien und dem Auswärtigen Amt (Germany) erhalten haben, sind wie folgt:

• Aus einigen Ländern sind internationalen Reisen nach Tunesien wieder möglich, was sich jedoch auf Grund der Infektionsraten und der damit verbundenen nationalen Beschränkungen ständig ändert
• Pauschalreisende inklusive der Wüstentouristen (gilt in diesem Fall), die bei Einreise ein negatives PCR-Testergebnis vorlegen können, das nicht älter als 72 Stunden ist, müssen sich nicht in Quarantäne begeben

Wir werden wie bei der Rallye Breslau 2020 maximal mögliche Hygienemaßnahmen anweden sowie alles Nötige zur Gewährleistung der allgemeinen Sicherheit vorbereiten.

3. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Du warst bereits ausgiebig in Tunesien unterwegs, um die Strecken für die neue geschaffene FENIX RALLY 2020 festzulegen. Was kannst Du uns dazu schon verraten?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Ich war selbst schon zweimal  im Rahmen der Rallye Organisation in Tunesien. Nach der soliden Scouting Tour bin ich sehr positiv hinsichtlich der Strecken, Unterkunft, Sicherheit und der gesamt Rallye-Organisation vor Ort gestimmt. Die Teilnehmer können mit einem gründlich durchdachten Programm sowie mit einer intelligenten Rallyeroute rechnen. Der Fokus wurde auf eine gute  Balance zwischen Sand-, Dünen- und Offroad-Strecken gelegt. Chancengleichheit wird durch die Kombination von technischen und schnellen Passagen mit Roadbook-Navigation geboten. Es wird ein tolles Erlebnis werden – stellt Euch schon einmal darauf ein.

4. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wie von dir und der RBI aus den vergangen Jahren bekannt und bewährt soll es auch hier ein All-Inclusive-Paket für die Teilnehmer der FENIX RALLY geben. Wie kann man sich das in Tunesien vorstellen?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Das Motto der Fenix Rally lautet “Bringing the desert closer to you.” In diesem Sinne möchten wir als Organisator soviel wie möglich den Teilnehmern von der Gesamtorganisation abnehmen und werden beispielsweise Lösungen für Fähre und Transport von Fahrzeugen sowie Shuttles in Tunesien vom Flughafen zum Rallye Hauptsitz/Camp anbieten. Alle Teilnehmer und Mechaniker werden im Hotel übernachten. Empfehlungen für Flüge geben wir ebenfalls. Die enge Kooperation mit unseren Partnern ermöglicht auch das Angebot von Zusazleistungen rund um die Rallye.

5. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wird es auch einen organisierten Transport für die Rallye-Fahrzeuge von Europa nach Tunesien eurerseits geben? Beinhaltet das alle Fahrzeug-Gattungen und wieviel Material kann über diesen Weg pro Fahrer/Team und Fahrzeug-Gattung auf den Weg gebracht werden?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Wir haben Transportunternehmen aus Zentral- und Westeuropa gezielt nach der Überführung von Fahrzeugen, Teilen und Werkzeugen von diversen Verladestationen in Frankreich, Deutschland, Niederlande/Belgien, Polen und Österreich angefragt. Unser Ziel ist eine unkomplizierte und kostenoptimierte Transportleistung an unsere Teilnehmer zu vermitteln, in dem wir als Veranstalter für einheitliche Kriterien und zuverlässige Durchführung sorgen. Von Motorrad über Quad und SSV bis hin zum Auto können die Firmen einen Sammeltransport anbieten. Ebenfalls werden wir die Überführung von Teilen und Werkzeugen in abgeschlossenen Standard-Stahlkisten anbieten. Diese können an den Verladestationen mit Inhaltsliste und Protokoll übergeben werden. Die Stahlkiste wird mit der Startnummer markiert. Nach der Rallye werden Fahzeuge und Kisten wieder zur jeweiligen Verladestation transportiert und zurückübergeben. Eine detailierte Kostenerrechnung läuft bereits und sehr bald werden wir konkrete Angebote auf der Webseite veröffentlichen. Die Verladestationen sowie das Modell der Stahlkiste und den den Lieferanten, der diese vertreibt werden wir bekannt geben.

6. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wird es auch wie schon bei der Balkan-Rallye und der Rallye-Breslau eine Discovery Challenge geben?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Ja. Bei der Fenix Rally gibt es ebenfalls eine Discovery Kategorie. Sie wird sogar als geführte Tour für Enduros, Quads, SSVs und Autos angeboten. Profis mit Wüsten-Erfahrung werden sich um die Teilnehmer kümmern. Sie beraten beim Roadbook-Lesen, GPS, Befahren von Sanddünen und vieles mehr. Die geführte Discovery Kategorie ist auf jeden Fall eine tolle Option für Fahrer in nicht modifizierten Fahrzeugen, die die Rallye Route und die Einzigartigkeit der Sahara ohne den Zeitdruck wie beim Wettbewerb erleben und erspüren wollen.

7. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Kannst Du schon etwas zu den Kosten für die Teilnehmer je Kategorie und Service-Personal sagen?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Die Nenngelder sind bereits auf der offiziellen Webseite www.fenix-rally.com veröffentlicht. Wir streben nach hoher Qualität zum sehr vernünftigen Preis.

Als Beispiel kann man in der Kategorie Enduro mit 1800 € Startgeld rechnen. Die Serviceperson kostet 800 €. Die Preise finden wir fair hinsichtlich des gesamtorganisatorischen Aufwands in solch einer Destination wie Tunesien. Im Preis ist schon Einiges mit inbegriffen – Sportrechte, acht Übernachtungen im Hotel für Fahrer und Service, Satelliten-Navigation und Tracking, Helikopter und Medical Service, Tank-Stationen für Motorräder und Quads. Ein spezielles Highlight während der Marathonetappe ist ebenfalls mit dabei – die Übernachtung in einem märchenhaften Zeltcamp tief in den Dünen der Sahara. Das wird ein unvergessliches Erlebnis unter dem Sternenhimmel sein. Die Idee ist einmal richtig „offline“ zu gehen und mit Gleichgesinnten den Sahara Spirit zu erleben. Keine Hilfe von Mechanikern – die Teilenehmer werden ihre Fahrzeuge selbst warten und sich untereinander helfen. Damit sich deswegen niemand mit schweren Ersatzteilen und Werkzeugen auf den Weg in die Wertungsprüfung machen muss wird die ORGA für jeden Teilnehmer eine Kiste ins Wüstencamp transportieren. Auch die eigene Wechselkleidung und ihre persönlichen Dinge werden die Teilnehmer in ihren Zelten vorfinden. Zudem eine erfrischende Dusche nach dem spannenden Rallyetag und schon schmeckt das Bier besser, oder?

8. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wird es auch einen Anreise-Support per Flugzeug, Auto und Fähre von der RBI geben? Sprich besondere Angebote oder hilfreiche Infos?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Absolut. Zusammen mit Partnern organisieren wir zahlreiche Fähr-Varianten zu einem Spezial-Preis für Rallye-Teilenehmer. Mehr Infos dazu kommen demnächst. Die Shuttle Transfers vom Flughafen Tunis und Djerba nach Douz (Rallye-Hauptquartier) zählen auch zu den optionalen Leistungen. Wir arbeiten gerade auch an einer guten Option für passende Flüge.

9. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Camp, Unterbringung und Catering: Wie wird das bei der FENIX RALLYE gehandhabt?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Das ist ein ganz wichtiges Thema für alle, deshalb schenken wir diesen Punkten besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Wir haben entschieden, dass alle Teilnehmer inklusive den Servicepersonen im Hotel untergebracht werden. Frühstück und Abendessen im europäischen und lokalen Stil finden im Hotel statt. Wir werden ebenfalls spezielle Lunchbreaks zwischen den Sonderprüfungen anbieten. Die Teilnehmer sollten sich in einem unbekannten Land außerhalb Europas sicher, liebevoll verpflegt und behandelt fühlen. Wir tun unser Bestes, um das sicherzustellen. Neben dem Hotel organisieren wir natürlich auch das Camp/den Service-Park. Hier ist es wichtig zu erwähnen, dass alle Fahrzeuge inkl. der großen LKWs bequem das Rally Camp über die Strecke Tunis nach Douz erreichen können, da man hier fast nur auf der Autobahn fährt. Alle Straßen sind asphaltiert und gut zu befahren.

10. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Ein wichtiges Thema ist ja wie immer die medizinische Versorgung sowie die Bergung der Fahrzeuge. Wie wird das in Tunesien abgesichert und was empfiehlst du den Teilnehmern zusätzlich?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Sicherheit hat höchste Priorität. Daher investieren wir auch hier und organisieren einen Helikopter mit Notarzt vor Ort. Das ist schon einmal eine spezielle Aktion in Tunesien und wir glauben, dass das auch von den Teilnehmern hoch geschätzt sein wird. Profesionelle Medicals aus Europa sind natürlich auch mit an Board. Die lokalen Krankenhäuser sind per Hubschrauber besonders schnell zu erreichen – für den Fall der Fälle. Unser erfahrenes Scouting Team gestaltet die Strecke sicher und intelligent. Die Teilnehmer werden zudem mit einem Satellitentracking System versorgt. Das Bergeteam aus Deutschland rundet das professionelle Gesamtbild der Rallye mit entsprechenden Berge-Fahrzeugen und Spezialisten mit langjähriger Erfahrung nochmals ab. Was die allgemeine Sicherheit angeht: Tunesien ist eins der sichersten Länder in Afrika. Die Leute freuen sich sehr auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Europäern und geben sich wirklich Mühe alles gut zu organisieren. Wir arbeiten eng mit der FTA – Automobilverband von Tunesien, mit dem Militär und der Polizei zusammen. Die Strecken sind mit den Behörden abgestimmt und genehmigt. Security wird ums Camp herum und auch noch speziell für die Rallye organisiert.

11. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Die Anforderungen an die Fahrzeuge sind vermutlich ähnlich wie bei allen bisher bekannten RBI-Rallyes, richtig? D.h. Roadbook und GPS sind die Basis. Welches System zur Ortung der Teilnehmer wird es geben? Müssen hierfür seitens der Teilnehmer spezielle technische Anforderungen vorab realisiert werden?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Das technische Reglement hat sich nicht verändert. Die Navigation wird per Roadbook und GPS sicher gestellt – auch nichts Neues. Die Neuerung ist unser System fürs Überholen, das auf eine direkte Fahrzeug-zu-Fahrzeug-Kommunikation basiert. Dazu werden alle Vorgänge und Handlungen der Teilnehmer registriert und dem Rennleiter bzw. den Sportwarten zur Verfügung gestellt. Wer eingeholt wird und keinen Platz zum Überholen macht wird definitiv bestraft. Auch eine weitere neue Funktion ist „Danger“. Falls man an einer gefährlichen Stelle an der Strecke steht, z.B. hinter einem Dünenkamm wird per Tastendruck eine Gefahrenmeldung an alle folgenden Fahrzeuge in einer Entfernung von ca. 300 Metern gesendet. Ein krelles Lichtsignal und ein 110 dB starkes Tonsignal gehen an und erwarten die Bestätigung von den folgenden Fahrzeugen durch ihre Besatzung. In der gleichen Weise funktioniert auch der medizinische Notruf. Die Meldung wird nicht nur an die Rally Control gesendet, sondern auch an alle folgende Fahrzeuge, die dann verpflichtet sind anzuhalten und Erste Hilfe zu leisten. Den Halter für die Com-Box bekommen die Teilnehmer von uns kostenfrei. Das System der Com-Box wurde bei der Breslau 2020 zum ersten Mal erfolgreich eingesetzt.

Da das GSM-Netz nur an wenigen Stellen der Rallyeroute vorhanden ist, werden wir bei der Fenix ein Iridium-Satellite Tracking- und Kommunikationssystem benutzen. Sobald unsere Tests abgeschlossen sind werden wir den genauen Typ und die notwendigen Montageelemente sowie Stromanschlüsse bekanntgeben.

12. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wie hoch fallen dieses Mal die Preisgelder aus? Ist nur Spaß, Alex. 😉 Wäre aber schon cool.

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Yeah! The Million-Dollar-Question! Es wäre nicht schlecht, aber unser Sport ist nicht Fussball oder Boxen. Trotzt aller Neuerungen in den letzten Jahren bleiben wir als Veranstalter unserer Philosophie treu, die Rallye für Jederman zu sein. Die familiäre Atmosphäre und der Spirit sind schon mehr als zwei Jahrzehnte das Fundament für das Haus Breslau, das schon mehr als zwei Jahrzehnte stabil steht. Als ich vor gut zwanzig Jahren als Youngster am Olympia Stadion in Berlin das erste Mal am Start der Rallye Breslau stand, habe ich einen Spruch gehört, der immer noch in meinem Kopf abgelegt ist: Der Weg ist das Ziel. Darum geht’s hier.

13. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Ab wann kann man sich anmelden?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Die Anmeldung startet am 19.12.2020 um 11:00 MEZ über unser Online System auf www.rallye-breslau.com. Dieses Mal haben wir etwas Spezielles und ganz Interessantes vorbereitet – die „Goldene Stunde der Rabatte“ für die Rallye Breslau und die Fenix Rally 2021: Facebook Live Stream und Start der Online Nennung. Wir laden jeden ein, der an unserem Sport Interesse hat, unseren Facebook-Live-Stream mit mir als Rennleiter der Veranstaltungen von RBI Sport, dem Pressesprecher Niels Hatzman, dem Leiter der Race-Control Kamil Jablonski und anderen interessanten Gästen zu verfolgen.

Wir werden über die Rallyesaison 2021 sprechen: Mit allen Neuigkeiten über die Sahara Wüste, die polnischen Wälder, mehr Extrem-Passagen während der Breslau, den On-Board Datenlogger und die Videorecorder. Während dessen kann Jeder Fragen stellen und Kommentare abgeben.

Der Live Stream wird auf den Facebook Seiten der Rallye Breslau und Fenix Rally übertragen. 15-20 Minuten früher, d.h. um 10:40 Uhr am 19.12.2020 werden wir mit dem Live Stream beginnen. Um 11:00 eröffnen wir das Online Portal für Nennungen. Alle, die sich innerhalb der ersten Stunde, also von 11:00 bis 12:00 Uhr angemeldet haben nehmen an einer Rabatt-Verlosung teil. Für die Fenix Rally werden sieben Teilnehmer einen Rabatt von jeweils 200 Euro vom Startgeld erhalten. Die sieben Gewinner werden durch eine Verlosung während des Live-Streams und direkt nach dem Ende der Goldenen Stunde um 12:00 Uhr MEZ bekannt gegeben.

14. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wir sprechen von insgesamt 6 Rallyetagen, richtig? Soweit wir das mitbekommen haben, wird es ein Camp geben, dass problemlos mit jedem Nicht-Allrad-Fahrzeug erreicht werden kann. Ist dieses eingezäunt oder überwacht, so dass sich das Material der Teams nicht verselbstständigen kann während man sich auf der Strecke befindet oder die Rallye vor Ort beobachten möchte?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Check-in im Hotel startet am 12. März. Die Rallye fängt am 13. März mit Dokumentenabnahme und technischer Abnahme im Rallye Headquarter in Douz an. Die 6 Renntage sind vom 14. bis 20. März. Am Samstag, 20. März ist Hotel Check-Out.

Es ist auch eine Marathonetappe mit dabei mit Stopp und Übernachtung in der Wüste. Das Rallye HQ ist in der Stadt Douz. Wie bereits mitgeteilt erfolgt die Anfahrt von der Stadt Tunis. Nach Douz kann man auf geteerten Straßen problemlos mit Nicht-Allrad-Fahrzeugen fahren.
Das Camp selbst wird teils im Hotelresort und direkt am Hotel sein wo auch die Groß-LKWs parken werden. Security & Polizei werden das ganze Camp überwachen. Viele kennen bereits den hohen Anspruch den ich mir selbst und dem Team stelle, sowie die solide Organisation der RBI und die Liebe zum Motorsport. Daher kann man sich auch darauf verlassen, dass die Strecke interessant sein wird und der ganze Rallyeablauf so sicher wie möglich organisiert werden wird.

15. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Gibt es während der Etappen eine Tankmöglichkeit und wenn ja, wird diese über das öffentliche Tankstellennetz abgedeckt oder wird es eine extra Tankmöglichkeit im Gelände geben?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Ich habe bereits mitgeteilt, dass es unser Ziel ist Leistungen und Infrastruktur anzubieten, die den Fahrern den Stress vor dem Unbekannten nimmt, so dass man man sich vollkommen der Rallye widmen kann. Für alle Teilnehmer wird es Tankmöglichkeiten im Gelände geben. Speziell für Endurofahrer ist der Kraftstoff in den Sonderprüfungen kostenfrei. Außerhalb des Geländes ist das öffentliche Tankstellennetz zu nutzen.

16. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wie hoch sind aktuelle die Kraftstoffpreise für Diesel und Benzin, Alex?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Der Kraftstoff in Tunesien ist günstiger als in Europa. Man kann mit ca. 50 Cent pro Liter Diesel rechnen. Der Benzinpreis liegt bei ca. 70 Cent pro Liter.

17. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Wird es für die Fährüberfahrt so wie bei anderen Rallyes auch Sonderkonditionen geben? Welche Knotenpunkte für die Überfahrt empfiehlst du aus Zentral-Europa kommend?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Natürlich. Unser Partner in der Fährticket-Abwicklung ist Netferry. Rallyeteilnehmer bekommen Sonderkonditionen, die wir demnächst veröffentlichen. Die Knotenpunkte, die wir empfehlen sind: Genua und Chevitavecchia in Italien. Die zweite Option liegt etwas südlicher als Genua und die Straßenfahrt wäre etwas länger für Teilnehmer aus Zentral- und Westeuropa. Allerdings ist der Preisunterschied der Fährüberfahrt auch entsprechend größer, sprich die Tickets sind viel günstiger. Wir warten noch auf Vorschläge für die Überfahrten aus Marseilles in Frankreich. Sobald wir Näheres wissen, werden die Informationen veröffentlichen. Die Endstation der Fähre ist Tunis, die Hauptstadt von Tunesien. Von dort geht die Fahrt nach Douz zum Rallye-HQ.

18. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Gibt es für die Service-Teams vor Ort während der Etappe Möglichkeiten die Rallye an speziellen Zuschauerpunkten zu beobachten oder alternativ sich von den Strapazen zu erholen?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI/Race Director): Die Serviceleute und die Gäste werden sich auf keinen Fall langweilen. Es wird sowohl Zuschauerpunkte als auch Servicezonen zwischen den WPs geben. Das Hotel liegt aber auch direkt am Sand der Sahara. Man kann dort viele Aktivitäten betreiben. Vom Kamelreiten bis zum Quad mieten und auf den Dünen Gas geben hat die Stadt Douz alles. Oder man besucht die berühmte Oase Ksar Ghilane. Wenn man schon einmal im Sandkasten ist, sollte man was tun!

The pandemic situation poses numerous challenges worldwide, including motorsport. However, some events are already firmly listed in the RBI Sport calendar and the preparations for the 2021 rally season are already in full swing. What does the RBI rally year 2021 look like?

Our team is pleased to announce that three rallies are firmly planned for 2021 – with the option for another event after the summer.

We start with the Fenix ​​Rally from March 13th to March 20th, 2021 in Tunisia, then comes the compact and fast Baja Europe from April 30th to May 2nd, 2021. After that the off-road legend Breslau Poland traditionally takes place in the summer of 29. June to July 3, 2021.

We live in the reality of the pandemic, strictly adhere to the restrictions and measures and attach great importance to safety. It is currently not an easy task to set up a racing calendar for the whole year, but we firmly believe that we will master this challenge together.

2. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): How is the situation in Tunisia because of Covid-19?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The information that we have received from the authorities in Tunisia and the Foreign Office Germany:

• International travel to Tunisia is possible again from some countries, but this is constantly changing due to the infection rates and the associated national restrictions
• Package travelers including desert tourists (applies in our case) who can present a negative PCR test result on entry that is not older than 72 hours do not have to go into quarantine

As with the Breslau Rally 2020, we will apply the maximum possible hygiene measures and prepare everything necessary to ensure general safety.

3. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): You have already traveled extensively in Tunisia to determine the routes for the new FENIX RALLY 2020. What can you tell us about it?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): I’ve been to Tunisia twice as part of the rally organization. After the solid scouting tour, I am very positive about the routes, accommodation, safety and the overall rally organization on site. The participants can count on a thoroughly thought-out program and an intelligent rally route. The focus was placed on a good balance between sand, dune and off-road routes. Equal opportunities are offered through the combination of technical and fast passages with road book navigation. It will be a great experience – be prepared for it.

4. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): As you and the RBI have known and proven in recent years, there should also be an all-inclusive package for the participants of the FENIX RALLY. How can you imagine that in Tunisia?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The motto of the Fenix ​​Rally is “Bringing the desert closer to you.” With this in mind, we as the organizer would like to relieve the participants as much as possible of the overall organization and will, for example, offer solutions for ferry and vehicle transport as well as shuttles in Tunisia from the airport to the rally headquarters / camp. All participants and mechanics will stay at the hotel. We also give recommendations for flights. The close cooperation with our partners also enables us to offer additional services related to the rally.

5. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Will you offer an organized transport for the rally vehicles from Europe to Tunisia? Does this include all vehicle types and how much material can be sent per driver / team and vehicle?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): We asked transport companies from Central and Western Europe specifically about the transfer of vehicles, parts and tools from various loading stations in France, Germany, the Netherlands / Belgium, Poland and Austria. Our goal is to provide an uncomplicated and cost-optimized transport service to our participants, in which we as the organizer ensure uniform criteria and reliable implementation. From motorcycles to quads and SSVs to cars, the companies can offer collective transport. We will also offer the transfer of parts and tools in locked standard steel boxes. These can be handed over at the loading stations with a list of contents and a log. The steel box is marked with the start number. After the rally, vehicles and boxes are transported to the respective loading station and handed back over. A detailed cost calculation is already running and very soon we will publish specific offers on the website. The loading stations are also published and we announce the model of the steel box and the supplier who sells it.

6. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Will there also be a Discovery Challenge like at the Balkan Rally and the Rally Breslau?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Yes. The Fenix ​​Rally also has a Discovery category. It is even offered as a guided tour for enduros, quads, SSVs and cars. Professionals with desert experience will take care of the participants. They advise on reading roadbooks, GPS, driving on sand dunes and much more. The guided Discovery category is definitely a great option for drivers in unmodified vehicles who want to experience and feel the rally route and the uniqueness of the Sahara without the time pressure of the competition.

7. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Can you already say something about the costs for the participants per category and service staff?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The entry fees are already published on the official website www.fenix-rally.com. We strive for high quality at a very reasonable price.

As an example, you can expect an entry fee of € 1800 in the Enduro category. The service person costs € 800. We think the prices are fair in terms of the overall organizational effort in a destination like Tunisia. A lot is already included in the price – sports rights, eight overnight stays in the hotel for driver and service, satellite navigation and tracking, helicopter and medical service, fuel stations for motorbikes and quads. A special highlight during the marathon stage is also included – an overnight stay in a fairytale tented camp deep in the dunes of the Sahara. It will be an unforgettable experience under the stars. The idea is to go really ‚offline‘ and experience the Sahara Spirit with like-minded people. No help from mechanics – the participants will maintain their vehicles themselves and help each other. So that nobody makes their way to the special stage with heavy spare parts and tools, the ORGA will transport a box for each participant to the desert camp. The participants will also find their own changing clothes and personal items in their tents. In addition, a refreshing shower after the exciting day of the rally and the beer tastes better, right?

8. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Will there also be travel support by plane, car and ferry from the RBI? For example special offers or helpful information?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Absolutely. Together with some partners we organize numerous ferry variants at a special price for rally participants. More information will come soon. The shuttle transfers from Tunis and Djerba airport to Douz (rally headquarter) are also part of the optional services. We are also currently working on a good option for suitable flights.

9. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Camp, accommodation and catering: How is that handled at the FENIX RALLYE?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): This is a very important topic for everyone, which is why we pay special attention to these points. We have decided that all participants including the service staff will be accommodated in the hotel. European and local style breakfast and dinner take place at the hotel. We will also offer special lunch breaks between the special stages. The participants should feel safe, lovingly cared for and treated in an unknown country outside Europe. We do our best to ensure that. In addition to the hotel, we also organize the camp / service park. It is important to mention here that all vehicles, including the large trucks, can easily reach the rally camp via the Tunis to Douz route, as here you drive almost exclusively on the motorway. All roads are tarred and easy to drive on.

10. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): As always, an important topic is medical care and the recovery of vehicles. How is this safeguarded in Tunisia and what additional suggestion do you give the participants?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Safety has the highest priority. Ttherefore we are investing here too and are organizing a helicopter with an emergency doctor on site. This is already a special and we believe that it will also be highly appreciated by the participants. Professional medicals from Europe are also on board, of course. The local hospitals can be reached particularly quickly by helicopter – just in case. Our experienced scouting team designs the route safely and intelligently. The participants are also supplied with a satellite tracking system. The rescue team from Germany with the appropriate vehicles and specialists with their many years of experience will round up this theme. As for general security, Tunisia is one of the safest countries in Africa. People are really looking forward to working with Europeans and are really trying to organize everything well. We work closely with the FTA – Automobile Association of Tunisia, with the military and the police. The routes are coordinated and approved with the authorities. Security is organized around the camp and especially for the rally.

11. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): The demands on the vehicles will probably be similar to those of all previously known RBI rallies, right? I.e. Roadbook and GPS are the basis. What system will there be to locate the participants? Do the participants have to implement special technical requirements in advance?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The technical regulations have not changed. The navigation is ensured by road book and GPS – nothing new either. The innovation is our system for overtaking, which is based on direct vehicle-to-vehicle communication. For this purpose, all processes and actions of the participants are registered and made available to the race director or the sports attendant. Anyone who is caught up and makes no space to overtake will definitely be penalized. Another new function is ‚Danger‘. If you stand in a dangerous place on the route, e.g. behind a dune ridge, a danger message is sent to all following vehicles at a distance of approx. 300 meters at the push of a button. A loud light signal and a 110 dB sound signal go on and await confirmation from the following vehicles by their crew. The medical emergency call works in the same way. The report is not only sent to the Rally Control, but also to all following vehicles, which are then obliged to stop and provide first aid. Participants receive the holder for the Com-Box from us free of charge. The Com-Box system was successfully used for the first time at Breslau 2020.

Because the GSM network is only available in a few places on the rally route, we will use an Iridium satellite tracking and communication system on the Fenix Rally. As soon as our tests are completed, we will announce the exact type and the necessary mounting elements and power connections.

12. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): How high are the prize money this time? Just kidding, Alex. 😉 Would be cool.

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Yeah! The Million Dollar Question! It wouldn’t be bad, but our sport is not football or boxing. Despite all the innovations in recent years, as organizers we remain true to our philosophy of being the rally for everyone. The family atmosphere and the spirit have been the foundation for the house Breslau, which has been stable for more than two decades. When I stood at the start of the Breslau Rally for the first time as a youngster at the Olympia Stadium in Berlin a good twenty years ago, I heard a saying that is still in my head: The journey is the goal. That’s what this is about.

13. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): When can I register?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Registration starts on December 19, 2020 at 11:00 CET via our online system at www.rallye-breslau.com. This time we have prepared something special and very interesting – the “Golden Hour of Discounts” for the Breslau Rally and the Fenix ​​Rally 2021: Facebook Live Stream and start of online entry. We invite everyone who is interested in our sport to follow our Facebook live stream with me as the race director of the events of RBI Sport, the press coordinator Niels Hatzman, the head of Race Control Kamil Jablonski and other interesting guests.

We will talk about the rally season 2021: With all the news about the Sahara desert, the Polish forests, more extreme passages during the Breslau, the on-board data logger and the video recorder. During this time everyone can ask questions and make comments.

The live stream will be broadcast on the Facebook pages of Rallye Breslau and Fenix ​​Rally. 15-20 minutes earlier, i.e. At 10:40 a.m. on December 19th, 2020 we will start the live stream. At 11:00 we will open the online portal for entries. All those who have registered within the first hour, i.e. from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., take part in a discount raffle. For the Fenix ​​Rally, seven participants will receive a discount of 200 euros each from the entry fee. The seven winners will be announced through a raffle during the live stream and immediately after the end of the golden hour at 12:00 CET.

14. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): We’re talking about a total of 6 rally days, right? As far as we have heard, there will be a camp that can be easily reached with any non-all-wheel drive vehicle. Is this fenced in or monitored so that the team’s material cannot become independent while you are on the track or want to watch the rally on site?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Check-in at the hotel starts on March 12th. The rally starts on March 13th with the inspection of documents and technical inspection at the rally HQ in Douz. The 6 racing days are from March 14th to 20th. Hotel check-out is on Saturday, March 20th.

There is also a marathon stage with a stop and an overnight stay in the desert. The rally HQ is in the city of Douz. As already announced, the approach is from the city of Tunis. You can easily drive to Douz in non-4×4 vehicles thanks to the tarred roads. The camp itself will be partly in the hotel resort and directly at the hotel where the large trucks will also be parked. Security & police will monitor the whole camp. Many already know the high standards I set for myself and the team, as well as the solid organization of RBI and the love for motorsport. Therefore you can be sure that the route will be interesting and that the whole rally process will be organized as safely as possible.

15. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Is there a refueling facility during the stages and if so, will it be covered by the public petrol station network or will there be an extra refueling facility at the track?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): I have already announced that our goal is to offer services and infrastructure that relieve the drivers of the stress of the unknown, so that you can fully devote yourself to the rally. There will be refueling facilities in the area for all participants. Especially for enduro riders, fuel is free in the special tests. The public petrol station network is to be used outside the track.

16. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): How high are the current fuel prices for diesel and gasoline, Alex?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The fuel in Tunisia is cheaper than in Europe. You can count on around 50 cents per liter of diesel. The price of petrol is around 70 cents per liter.

17. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Will there be special conditions for the ferry crossing as with other rallies? Which hubs for the crossing do you recommend coming from Central Europe?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): Of course. Our partner in ferry ticket processing is Netferry. Rally participants get special conditions, which we will publish soon. The hubs we recommend are: Genoa and Chevitavecchia in Italy. The second option is a little further south than Genoa and the road trip would be a little longer for participants from Central and Western Europe. However, the price difference for the ferry crossing is correspondingly larger, i.e. the tickets are much cheaper. We are still waiting for proposals for crossings from Marseilles in France. As soon as we know more details, the information will be published. The ferry terminus is Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. From there the journey goes to Douz to the rally HQ.

18. OFFROADCRACKS (Sascha Christof): Are there opportunities for the service teams on site to watch the rally at special spectator points during the stage or, alternatively, to recover from the exertion?

Alexander Kovatchev (RBI / Race Director): The service people and the guests will definitely not be bored. There will be both spectator points and service zones between the special stages. The hotel is also right on the sand of the Sahara. You can do many activities there. From camel rides to renting a quad bike and accelerating on the dunes, the city of Douz has it all. Or visit the famous Ksar Ghilane oasis. If you’ve ever been to the sandpit, do something!
