Two $3,000 bush mechanic 4WDs, left for dead in the flooded Simpson Desert 18 months ago, and now Jesse Gleeson and Jock McDonald go back to resurrect and drag them 5,000km to the top of Cape York.

From Birdsville they nurse the old rigs north into Cape York, torn apart by one of its worst cyclone seasons on record. Tracks that haven’t been driven in months. Trees down for kilometres. And the one that’s been keeping them up at night: the mighty Pascoe River, deep, fast, full of hidden rocks, and smack bang in the middle of croc country. It’s swallowed better rigs than these.

They’re not doing it alone. The Bush Mechanic crew are back, with two new additions in tow. With these cheap rigs, we’re going to need all the help we can get.
