Unter den knapp 3000 Fahrern befinden sich beispielsweise der aktuelle Enduro 3 Weltmeister Hamish MacDonald aus Neuseeland, Josh Moisman aus den USA, Multi-Enduroweltmeister David Knight aus England oder MX Legende Sebastian Tortelli aus Frankreich, die sich der brutalen 25,2 Kilometer lange Strecke auf der schwedischen Insel Gotland in der Ostsee am 25. Oktober stellen werden.

Es gibt natürlich für die erbrachte Spitzenleistung auch bei der 42. Auflage (!) wieder was zu holen und zwar satte 348.000 SEK, das wären lt. aktuellem Umrechnungskurs zirka 32.000 Euro in allen Klassen. Dem Gesamtsieger 2025 bei den Frauen und Männern winken jeweils 75.000 SEK (~6.880 Euro) Preisgeld.

Zeitgleich kämpft der Veranstalter darum die Rennstrecke in Hjdeby in eine permanente Endurostrecke umzuwandeln, nachdem nach 40 erfolgreichen Jahren die schwedischen Streitkräfte den Rennbetrieb auf dem historischen Tofta-Schießstand nicht mehr erlaubten. Die Anträge laufen und zufälligerweise wird am 24.10.25 im Ausschuss über die Baugenehmigung der permanenten Endurostrecke entschieden werden, so dass die Zukunft dieses legendären Wettbewerbs hoffentlich gesichert werden kann.

Auch für eine entsprechende Aussteller-Meile ist gesorgt und es sind zahlreiche Hersteller am Start: Michelin, Onegripper, Vartex, CF-Moto, KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Swecon, Drivex, Knobby, DeWalt, Milwaukee, VW, Yamaha, Triumph, Sherco, Ducati, USW, 24MX und Red Bull, um nur die wichtigsten zu Nennen.

Nachdem Max Ahlin im letzten Jahr gewonnen hatte, heißt es auch dieses Jahr wieder Vollgas, denn die Konkurrenz schläft nicht, um einen der begehrtesten Siege im skandinavischen Raum einzufahren. Dass das bei 3000 Fahrer aus 18 Nationen nicht einfach werden wird, steht von vornherein fest. Denn auch ein Albin Elowson (SWE) oder Casper Lindholm (SWE) wissen wie man zwei Räder unter diesen Bedingungen bewegt. Interessant wird zu sehen sein, wie sich WM-Fahrer Hamish MacDonald auf diesem Terrain schlagen wird und natürlich der Senior David Knight, der vor kurzem P4 in der Gesamtwertung beim legendären Weston Beach Race auf einer speziell präparierten Ducati Desmo 450MX holte. Auch Moisman aus den USA gilt es zu beobachten, ebenso wie Motocross-Weltmeister und USA-MX-Meister Sebastian Tortelli mit seinen 47 Jahren.

„Endlich klappt es und ich bin wirklich glücklich zum Gotland Grand National Cross-Country-Rennen zu kommen, nachdem ich es viele Jahre lang wollte, aber aufgrund von Terminüberschneidungen usw. nicht schaffte. Ich freue mich sehr darauf mit der neuen Ducati 450 Desmo MX zu kommen und sie auf Herz und Nieren zu testen. Das Rennen sieht hart aus und die Bedingungen auf Gotland im Oktober können unberechenbar sein, daher bin ich aufgeregt und nervös zugleich – aber ich werde mein Bestes geben und das Rennen genießen“, O-Ton David Knight (47 Jahre).

Um das ganze Rennen live verfolgen zu können bestehen folgende Möglichkeiten:

Aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum steht nur Philipp Reichinger aus Österreich für den MSC Mattighofen in der ELITE-Klasse am Start.

Among the almost 3000 riders are, for example, the current Enduro 3 World Champion Hamish MacDonald from New Zealand, Josh Moisman from the USA, Multi-Enduro World Champion David Knight from England or MX legend Sebastian Tortelli from France, who will face the brutal 25.2-kilometer route on the Swedish island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea on October 25th.

The overall winner in 2025 in the women“s and men“s categories will receive SEK 75,000 (~6,880 euros) in prize money each.

At the same time, the organizer is fighting to convert the race track in Hjdeby into a permanent enduro track after the Swedish armed forces no longer allowed racing at the historic Tofta shooting range after 40 successful years. The applications are underway and coincidentally on 24.10.25 the committee will decide on the building permit for the permanent enduro track, so that the future of this legendary competition can hopefully be secured.

There will also be a corresponding exhibitor mile and numerous manufacturers will be at the start: Michelin, Onegripper, Vartex, CF-Moto, KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Swecon, Drivex, Knobby, DeWalt, Milwaukee, VW, Yamaha, Triumph, Sherco, Ducati, USW, 24MX and Red Bull, to name just the most important ones.

After Max Ahlin won last year, it“s full throttle again this year, because the competition does not sleep to achieve one of the most coveted victories in Scandinavia. It is clear from the outset that this will not be easy with 3000 drivers from 18 nations. Because even Albin Elowson (SWE) or Casper Lindholm (SWE) know how to move two wheels under these conditions. It will be interesting to see how World Championship rider Hamish MacDonald will fare on this terrain and, of course, senior David Knight, who recently took P4 in the overall standings at the legendary Weston Beach Race on a specially prepared Ducati Desmo 450MX. Moisman from the USA is also worth watching, as is motocross world champion and USA MX champion Sebastian Tortelli at the age of 47.

„Finally it works out and I“m really happy to come to the Gotland Grand National cross-country race after wanting to do it for many years, but couldn“t do it due to scheduling conflicts, etc. I“m really looking forward to coming with the new Ducati 450 Desmo MX and putting it through its paces. The race looks tough and the conditions on Gotland in October can be unpredictable, so I“m excited and nervous at the same time – but I“ll do my best and enjoy the race,“ said David Knight (47 years old).
