AL ATTIYAH SETZT SEINEN DACIA AN DIE SPITZE
AUF DEM WEG
Die kürzeste Wertungsprüfung der Rallye du Maroc 2024 (siehe Radio Biwak) verlief nicht ganz reibungslos! Durch die Überschwemmungen der vergangenen Wochen beschädigte Strecken und die Hitze in den Dünen geben den Ton an für die Herausforderung, die die Teilnehmer bis in die orientalische Region erwartet.
Bei den Motorrädern haben die Podiumsplatzierten des gestrigen Prologs, die sich entschieden hatten, vom 10. bis 12. Platz zu starten, eindeutig die richtige Wahl getroffen. Es war dieses Trio, das sich in anderer Reihenfolge erneut hervortat. Ross Branch beendete die Sonderprüfung mit 48 Zoll vor Daniel Sanders und 1’48 Zoll vor der gestrigen Siegerin Tosha Schareina. Der Botswaner, der in der Weltmeisterschaft an der Spitze steht, leistete hervorragende Arbeit (siehe W2RC) und übernahm die Führung im Gesamtklassement 48“ vor dem Australier und 1’30“ vor dem Spanier. Mit Luciano Benavides (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) auf Platz 4 scheint das österreichische Team, das mit einem modifizierten Chassis zur technischen Abnahme kam, in die richtige Richtung gearbeitet zu haben. Die Lücken im RallyGP sind bereits erheblich. Benavides liegt mehr als 6 Minuten hinter dem Spitzenreiter.
In der Rallye 2 Kategorie fuhr Bradley Cox im RallyGP-Tempo. Der Südafrikaner belegte den sechsten Gesamtrang und gewann 3’19“ vor seinem Landsmann und Teamkollegen Michael Docherty. Romain Dumontier belegte wie gestern mit 5’36“ den dritten Platz. BAS World KTM Racing platzierte das Trio Cox-Docherty-Canet auf den ersten drei Plätzen.
In der Rallye3 Kategorie hielt Souleymane Addahri John Medina (XRaid Experience) zurück. In der Gesamtwertung hat der Marokkaner bereits einen Vorsprung von 28’39‘. In der Quad-Kategorie setzte sich Kamil Wisniewski heute gegen Antanas Kanopkinas (CF Moto Thunder) durch. Der Pole hat 26’21‘ Vorsprung vor dem Litauer.

In der Autokategorie erzielte Nasser Al Attiyah, der als 28. startete, den ersten Sieg in der Geschichte des Dacia Sandrider (siehe Statistik des Tages). Der Rekordhalter der Rallye du Maroc gewann 1’39‘ vor Yazeed Al Rajhi und 2‘33‘ vor Carlos Sainz, der bereits auf dem Prolog-Podium stand. Guerlain Chicherit (X-raid Mini JCW), der Sieger von gestern, belegte mit 5’47‘ den 4. Platz. Die heutigen Zeiten sind auch die Gesamtzeiten.
In der Challengers-Kategorie belegte Michal Goczal den 7. Gesamtrang, sein Bruder den 9. Platz. Mitch Guthrie, der gestern als Sieger bekannt gegeben wurde, bevor er eine Strafe erhielt, bleibt im Kampf. In der Gesamtwertung trennen die Geschwister 8 Zoll, wobei der US-Amerikaner 5’24 Zoll hinter dem Spitzenreiter liegt. In der SSV-Kategorie liegt „Chaleco“ vor Alexandre Pinto (Old Friends Rally) und Yasir Seaidan (MMP). Bei den Trucks hat Martin Macik einen Vorsprung von 1:58 Fuß vor Martin Soltys (Tatra Buggyra ZM Racing).
RADIOBIWAK
Gestern Abend war fast die Hälfte der Karawane um 20 Uhr, dem traditionellen Zeitpunkt der Besprechung, immer noch nicht am Biwak angekommen. Die Überschwemmung mehrerer Wadis auf der Transferstrecke Ouarzazate-Zagora hatte einige Teilnehmer und Begleitfahrzeuge blockiert. David Castera beschloss, sie nicht zu bestrafen, indem er eine schriftliche Einweisung an alle herausgab, in der er den Tausch der Etappen 1 und 2 ankündigte und die Distanz der Sonderprüfung am nächsten Tag verkürzte, um einen späteren Start zu ermöglichen: 10.05 Uhr für das erste Motorrad . Insgesamt umfasste diese neue, modifizierte zweite Etappe, die heute ausgetragen wurde, 172 Kilometer Verbindungsstrecke und 180 Kilometer Sonderprüfung, also insgesamt 352 Kilometer. Das Programm für die morgige Etappe 1 bleibt unverändert. Weltweit haben sich die Zahlen für die Rallye du Maroc daher geändert: 2.365 Kilometer inklusive 1.392 Kilometer Sonderprüfungen.
DIE ZAHL DES TAGES: 1
Erste Etappe der Rallye du Maroc 2024 und erster Sieg für Al Attiyah und seinem Dacia Sandrider. Das neue Dacia-Team strahlt rundherum, als alle drei Autos ins Biwak zurückkehrten. Attiyahs Teamkollegin Cristina Gutierrez beendete die schwierige Prüfung auf dem sechsten Platz, während Sebastien Loebs dritter Sandrider einen beispiellosen Vorstoß durch das Feld machte. Nach seinen Missgeschicken beim gestrigen Prolog (gestricheltes Dreieck) startete er heute Morgen von Platz 121 und belegte einen unglaublichen 12. Gesamtrang und einen 8. Platz im Ultimate!
25. AUFLAGE: ZAGORA RECORD
Seit gestern steht die Karawane im Biwak in Zagora. Die Stadt Draa hat eine reiche Geschichte mit der Rallye du Maroc. Als sechsmaliger Startort und viermaliger Zielort hält Zagora den Rekord, gefolgt von Erfoud und Agadir. In den Jahren 2009, 2010 und 2021 war Zagora der Start- und Zielort. In diesem Jahr wird die Karawane drei Nächte in ihrem Biwak verbringen.

FIM W2RC: Es wird Branch oder Van Beveren sein
Ross Branch gelang ein Schlag, als er die Tagesetappe gewann. Der Botswaner führt die Rallye du Maroc an und hat einen Vorsprung von 10’53‘ vor Adrien Van Beveren. Der Franzose ist nun sein letzter Rivale im Kampf um den RallyGP-Weltmeistertitel. Der Zweitplatzierte Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) musste das Rennen aufgrund einer Knieverletzung, die er sich während der Etappe zugezogen hatte, aufgeben. 16 Punkte trennen Branch und „VBA“ in einem nunmehr zweigleisigen Kampf!
FIA W2RC: 42 %!
Nasser Al Attiyah holte nicht nur den ersten Sieg des Dacia Sandrider in Zagora. Der Katar holte sich außerdem den 40. Sieg seiner W2RC-Karriere auf der 100. FIA-Sonderprüfung. Der zweimalige Weltmeister, der diese Woche den dritten Titel in Folge anstrebt, nahm an 94 dieser 100 Etappen teil. Das ist eine Erfolgsquote von 42,5 % seit Januar 2022!
DAVID CASTERA: STAGE 2
„Die ersten beiden Etappen finden im M’Hamid-Sektor statt, der vom Regen stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen wurde. Natürlich haben wir die Chegaga-Dünen beibehalten, aber aufgrund des schlechten Wetters mussten wir einige Schotterpisten hinzufügen, um einen Untergrund zu finden, der einen reibungslosen Ablauf des Rennens gewährleisten würde. Wir mussten die Wertungsprüfung umgestalten, die ihre Distanz behält. Es behält auch seine 20 Kilometer lange separate Route in den Dünen bei. Die Spuren sind nicht sehr gut sichtbar, daher mussten wir einige WPs hinzufügen.“

AL ATTIYAH PUTS HIS DACIA ON THE TOP SPOT
ON TRACK
The shortest special stage of the Rallye du Maroc 2024 (see Radio bivouac) was not all plain sailing! Tracks damaged by the flooding of the previous weeks and the heat in the dunes set the tone for the challenge awaiting the competitors all the way to the Oriental region.
Among the bikes, the podium finishers in yesterday’s prologue who had chosen to start from 10th to 12th place clearly made the right choice. It was this trio, in a different order, who once again distinguished themselves. Ross Branch finished the special 48‘’ ahead of Daniel Sanders and 1’48‘’ ahead of yesterday’s winner Tosha Schareina. The Botswanan, leader of the world championship, did an excellent job (see W2RC), taking the overall lead 48‘’ ahead of the Australian and 1’30‘’ in front of the Spaniard. With Luciano Benavides (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in 4th place, the Austrian team, who came to scrutineering with a modified chassis, seems to have been working in the right direction. The gaps in RallyGP are already substantial. Benavides is more than 6 minutes behind the leader.
In Rally2, Bradley Cox rode at RallyGP pace. 6th overall, the South African won 3’19‘’ ahead of his compatriot and team-mate Michael Docherty. Romain Dumontier, like yesterday, finished3rd at 5’36‘’. BAS World KTM Racing placed the Cox-Docherty-Canet trio in the first 3 places.
In Rally3, Souleymane Addahri held off John Medina (XRaid Experience). In the overall standings, the Moroccan already has a 28’39’ lead. In the quad category, Kamil Wisniewski got the better of Antanas Kanopkinas (CF Moto Thunder) today. The Pole has 26’21’ on the Lithuanian.

In the car category, Nasser Al Attiyah, who started 28th, scored the first win in the history of the Dacia Sandrider (see Stat of the Day). The Rallye du Maroc record-holder won 1’39‘ ahead of Yazeed Al Rajhi and 2’33’ in front of Carlos Sainz, already on the prologue podium. Guerlain Chicherit (X-raid Mini JCW), yesterday’s winner, finished 4th at 5’47’. Today’s times are also the overall times.
In the Challengers category, Michal Goczal was 7th overall with his brother 9th. Mitch Guthrie, who was announced as the winner yesterday before receiving a penalty, remains in the battle. In the general standings, 8” separate the siblings, with the American 5’24‘’ behind the leader. In the SSV category, ‘Chaleco’ is ahead of Alexandre Pinto (Old Friends Rally) and Yasir Seaidan (MMP). In the trucks, Martin Macik has a 1’58’ lead over Martin Soltys (Tatra Buggyra ZM Racing).
RADIO BIVOUAC
Last night, almost half the caravan still hadn’t arrived at the bivouac at 8pm, the traditional time for the briefing. The flooding of several wadis over the Ouarzazate-Zagora transfer route had blocked some of the competitors and support vehicles. David Castera decided not to penalise them by issuing a written briefing to everyone in which he announced the swap of stages 1 and 2, with a reduction in the distance of the next day’s special stage to allow a later start: 10.05 am for the first bike. In total, this new, modified stage 2, contested today, comprised 172 kilometres of liaison and 180 kilometres of special, making a total of 352 kilometres. The programme for tomorrow’s stage 1 remains unchanged. Globally, the figures for the Rallye du Maroc have therefore changed: 2,365 kilometres including 1,392 kilometres of special stages.
THE NUMBER OF THE DAY: 1
First stage of the Rallye du Maroc 2024, and first win for Al Attiyah and his Dacia Sandrider. Smiles all round for the new Dacia team as all three cars returned to the bivouac. Attiyah’s team-mate Cristina Gutierrez finished the difficult special in sixth position, while Sebastien Loeb’s third Sandrider made an unprecedented charge through the field. Starting from 121st place this morning after his misadventures during yesterday’s prologue (broken triangle), he finished an incredible 12th overall and 8th in the Ultimate!
25th EDITION: ZAGORA RECORD
The caravan has been at the bivouac in Zagora since yesterday. The town of the Draa has a rich history with the Rallye du Maroc. As the start town 6 times and the finish town 4 times, Zagora holds the record, with Erfoud and Agadir close seconds. In 2009, 2010 and 2021, Zagora was the start and finish town. This year, the caravan will spend 3 nights in its bivouac.

FIM W2RC: It will be Branch or Van Beveren
Ross Branch struck a blow by winning the day’s stage. Leader of the Rallye du Maroc, the Botswanan has a 10’53’ lead over Adrien Van Beveren. The Frenchman is now his last rival in the fight for the RallyGP world title. Second-placed Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) was forced to retire from the race with a knee injury sustained during the stage. 16 points separate Branch and ‘VBA’ in what is now a two-way battle!
FIA W2RC: 42%!
Nasser Al Attiyah didn’t just take the Dacia Sandrider’s first ever win in Zagora. The Qatari also claimed the 40th win of his W2RC career on the 100th FIA special stage. The two-time world champion, who is aiming for a third title in a row this week, took part in 94 of these 100 stages. That’s a success ratio of 42.5% since January 2022!
DAVID CASTERA: STAGE 2
“The first two stages take place in the M’Hamid sector, which has been badly affected by the rain. We’ve obviously kept the Chegaga dunes, but the bad weather has meant that we’ve had to add some gravel tracks in order to find ground that would ensure the race runs smoothly. We’ve had to remodel the special stage, which retains its distance. It also retains its 20 kilometres of separate route in the dunes. The tracks are not very visible, so we’ve had to add some WPs.”
