Fifty years ago, Mark McMillin lined up at the 1976 Baja 1000 with a Class 9 Bug — the McMillin family’s first desert race. What began as a single entry into Baja has grown into one of the most iconic family legacies in off-road racing history.
In this special legacy interview, Mark McMillin reflects on those early days alongside the original #913 car that he and his father Corky McMillin raced in 1976. Recently restored by friends Rory Ward and Cody Swanty, the historic Bug stands as a tribute to where it all began — long before the era of modern AWD Trophy Trucks.
From grassroots beginnings to five decades of racing evolution, this piece captures the passion, family history, and perseverance that helped shape McMillin Racing into what it is today.
